Has anbody had a tooth extracted lately and how much they paid . I just went to a dentist in iskele and a part of a tooth extracted it only took about 15 minutes and they charged 500 tl . My wife who is turkish says evertwhere in famagusta is 150 tl and iskele should definately not be more expensive . She sent t me back to ask but the dentist had left with the money ...i got the feeling they where not busy ... i got a receipt but they coukdnt giive me any price list which seemed strange . Clearly. Should have asked before how much it cost .

Im oretty sure ihave been over charged as its cheap here in iskele . They have shot themselves in the foot as its a small place here and my wife f knows everybody.

Shoukd dentists not have a price lis ?

Can't speak for prices in Famagusta, but in answer to your last question. Yes they should and I wouldn't go to anyone who couldn't produce it, better still have it on show in reception!!

Of course, a price list should be available. However, assuming you asked the cost of treatment prior to it starting, you entered into the contract the dentist organised and agreed to it. If you did not seek a price pre-treatment, you have now learnt an expensive lesson here in the TRNC. 500 Tl = £67 approx @ 7.45 exchange rate.

Well. I did post in my first post that i hadnt asked the price so here was no need to assume otherwise.

Anyway my wife has spoken to the receptionist in turkish. Who has been very evasive and incoherent. Firstly she says its the wrong price . Then shes saying its the correct price . She wont tell her how much an xray and an extraction costs individually ...

I Need a root canal and the receptionist has said that the root canal will cost 500 tl but they will give a 250 tl discount.....she volunteered this without speaking to the dentist who had previously left . So basically i have been over charged by at least 250 tl the receptionist knows it but wont admit it . There is no way a root canal costs the same as a simple extraction and an exray . The dentist is in at 3 tommorrow and the lady has told us to come and see him . They where extremely sheepish .

I phoned 3 dentists to find out what an extraction costs two in famagusta - both 150 tl and1 in zeytinlink - 200 tl i expected the kyrenia one to be more .

The dentists name is fethi erkan yagci opposite unimar in iskele i would recommend avoiding . I really dislke beng over charged depending on what happens tommorrow i might consider other options.

Most TC and Turks go to Hatay in Turkey as it renown as for the best dentist and very affordable in the middle east, 25min flight from Ercan they will pick you up from the airport and if necessary arrange hotel, specialist in all cosmetic dental work approx 50% cheaper than here.

I use the Near East dental facility.

Last year it cost approx £15 for a check up and £30 for the hygienist, though this was before the lira dropped.(after 20% BRS discount)
Implants worked out at about a quarter of UK prices.
My theory is that the NE staff are salaried so they have need to overcharge or rush the job - I have been very satisfied with all the work I have done there.
Also they have specialists for each job.

gripon, I haven't been to Hatay personally, but TC friends or those married to TC's cannot understand why expats don't do the same and think we're barmy, particularly for cosmetic work.

If you are in Iskele or Famagusta I would recommend this dentist, especially for crowns bridges, and inplants:
http://www.luxurydentalcyprus.com/about-us.html
Dr. Ayse Sutcu speaks fluent English and has full BDS recognised qualifications,
Prices are about 25% of those in the UK and work form the lab is usually back in 3-4 days.

johnny1, as described to me "Hatay is built on teeth and face lifts" in other words there are dental hospitals all over the place,

One thing I remember about someone(on Kibkom I think), was they went to Hatay before the e-visa, when you had to pay in airport, the £10 or £20 whatever. The person was charged £50 when arrived in Hatay. I assume this overcharging cannot take place with e visa, but I still think you need to be aware of anyone trying to make money from any visitor. Do your homework before you go, IMO.

This may be slightly off topic but does anyone have knowledge or personal experience of a cosmetic dentist in the north who uses the Invisalign system (braces) and if possible a rough idea of the cost?

You need to visit Dr Bulent Haydar in Lefkosa the cost for invisalign is 20.000 tl they do a 3d scan and send it off to America which is where your molds are made.
