At the EFRAR 2017, supporting Tulips, final Grand Auction event for the year one of highlights of the auction was a signed glove by Anthony Joshua MBE which raised almost £500.
The glove was willingly donated and personally signed by Anthony Joshua MBE, the current 'Unified World Heavyweight Champion' - holding the IBF, WBA and IBO titles, in his endeavour to raise funding for cancer patients in the TRNC.
The glove was available thanks to Jack Goodwin, an old army contact of Tom Steel, husband of Sue Steel, Vice Chair of EFRAR 2017, supporting Tulips. Jack was involved with Anthony at the very start of his career and developed a good relationship with both him and his mother. Anthony was happy to donate the glove when he knew that it would benefit cancer patients.
"Jack", an internationally qualified and very active boxing referee, was involved in Anthony's early boxing career before he gained Olympic success and his later professional career, and they have remained close, family, friends ever since.
Norwegian Torunn Straumoy, who lives in the TRNC on a semi permanent basis, was the lucky recipient of the glove. She moved to TRNC 'on behalf of love'. She met Graham Latham, owner of North Cove Estate Agents, some 28 years ago but lost touch. Finding him via the Internet, she came to the TRNC and their relationship was re-kindled.
Torunn bid for the glove because of her admiration for boxing, especially female boxers. Cesilie Brekhus, who was initially a kick boxer and has been the undisputed female welterweight champion since 2014, is a friend of her daughter. She heard about the glove and the great work that EFRAR 2017, supporting Tulips, do for Tulips and just wanted it.

She is undecided whether to keep the glove or give it as a present to someone who will really appreciate it.
Mary Watson, Chair of EFRAR 2017, supporting Tulips commented: “We were delighted to auction the glove and wish to thank Anthony Joshua MBE and Jack Goodwin, along with Tom Steel for securing such a valuable item for the auction. It is good to know that people in UK are behind us in our efforts to raise money for Tulips each year.”
