Evening All

We have a fig in our garden which I pruned quite extensively when we arrived in January.

Thought. Had been too harsh but two weeks ago shoots started to appear and now there must be over 100 figs already on the tree and they are quite plump. It was over 15 feet high before I pruned it, my question is when will the figs be ready ?? Do they only bear fruit once a year, are they picked before they are fully ripe ??

Any tips on this would be really welcomed so thanks in advance.

Google is my friend and this is what I found ....

''Wait until the figs are ripe to harvest. Figs will not continue to ripen after they are picked like many other fruits. You can tell that it is time for harvesting figs when the fruit necks wilt and the fruits hang down. If you pick a fig fruit too early, it will taste horrible; ripe fruit is sweet and delicious.''

It appears that you have an early variety. The variety that I like the best are the black ones which are starting to form now and will be ready mid July.

Waterline, thank you very much for your reply. Can't wait until July now but will also look out for the signs.
