So there is a bit of wriggle room then for a couple of % increase, did you have to ask or did they do it for you ?

You will not get more than 22% and you will have to have a big bank account to get that amount, never heard of banks ringing you and offering you higher interest normally you have to ask them if they will up the rates. Not sure what Creditwest offer on large amounts but i guess it will be competitive.

Near East were offering 15% on Turkish equivalent circa £10,000 before the rate rise so maybe 21% on that kind of amount isn't beyond reason as the rate went up over 6%.

But with a base rate of 24% what you get offered obviously can't go above that.

Well I say obviously with the grasp of basic economics in Turkey who knows!

Are you sure that investing here anything like that amount in any type of currency would be wise in this current economic climate and with the present Turkish Leader whose aim appears to be to take charge of every aspect of the economy?

Personally I would have that deposit transferred to UK PDQ.

Further to my post above....
I am reminded of a post on a recent thread on here which drew attention to a Press report about a speech by a Turkish Opposition Leader who stated, inter alia, that Erdogan had personal wealth in the region of 50 million US Dollars invested in the Isle Of Man.

Shameful if true, and I cannot see him making it up, one day we may learn how Erdogan gained such wealth, but that is another story. I think folks should take a lesson from this and follow Erdogan's lead.

Tingtang.

I entirely agree with your comments .

Far better to protect what you have rather than risk your savings or be tempted by attractive interest rates which could be unsustainable.

With several local banks and despite contacting them immediately upon the rate increase in Turkey, we have not received a 'satisfactory' response from any of them yet. In anticipation...

If they offered 10% I still wouldn't invest.
