Re: Car hire/Larnaca
first question is how long are you staying on our side ? if its just for a holiday then yes you can insure hire cars at the border but it would be wise to check with the hire company that you are allowed to come this side in there contract
Karaman, its not all wax jackets and green wellies anymore

belle, the important bit of that post was: -
"it would be wise to check with the hire company that you are allowed to come this side in their contract"
Not every hire car company does allow it, you need to check first, and either get them to arrange the insurance in advance, or provide you with a letter, authorising you to take the vehicle across the Green Line, and to insure it. Be aware that any such insurance would probably not cover 'Recovery Costs' from TRNC in the event of a breakdown or accident - that would be at your expense.

Re: Car hire/Larnaca
I hire cars in the south on numerous occasions and can confirm that some hire car companys dont allow it however there is no reason you cant physically drive them over the border with seperate insurance but they will not assist if theres a problem. The three i know for a fact that allow them over is AVIS, SIXT and Demis a local greek cypriot. All are avaialble on line obviously and I for one think SIXT are the best (used them earlier this month)
Hope that helps

Thanks Bert, will try Sixt.
The reason we want to hire in the south is simply cost, we have in the past, got a taxi across and hired in the north but it works out to be very costly.

I think Avis was cheaper than SIXT but SIXT had newer vehicles. also check out http://www.demis.com.cy. We have in the past emailed him and got chea[per than the qoutes on his WWW. so try him too. He is a nice guy and meets you at the airport etc etc. his email is [email protected]
good luck and dont forget to negotiate especially in Nov- FEB

Bert, that's interesting - are you saying that you have actually hired a car in the South, and been able to buy insurance at the Green Line, & drive it across to the North without any authorisation, - written or otherwise?Bert wrote:..however there is no reason you cant physically drive them over the border with seperate insurance
