At what border crossings do you have to get out of the car?

I've seen that some border checkpoints are designed with a pavement between the road and the passport control booth, meaning you have to get out of the car to present your papers. At others, however, you can hand it over through the window, like at most crossings in Europe

Based on your experiences, at what checkpoints can you hand over the paperwork through the window, and at which ones do you have to get out of the car?

(we're two people travelling, so to what side the booth is is not an issue)

I see, the checkpoints must've been refurbished then, because I keep seeing this pavement at Metehan betweeen the road and the booth - doesn't look like the arm can reach the booth http://photos.wikimapia.org/p/00/04/00/58/68_big.jpg

Great anyway, thanks!

Famagusa crossing you usually need to get out of the car, although sometimes there is a spare policeman who stands outside and hands your passports over.
