Used the mx android box for last 12 months in uk and here in cyprus, great for watching movies including new releases and box sets ,live tv can be a little temperamental here in cyprus depending on your wifi ,sat watching GMTV at the moment no problems.
No subsciption needed for the channel's, easy set up if its preloaded, great for swallows small enough to fit in a handbag or cheap enough to have two around £50 in uk.

There are several ways to watch IP TV.
People can find free ways to watch some of them with the advertises or temporary links.
Peoplw who are looking for permanent TV with daily watching programs,sports,movies, documentaries,news,musics,cartoons and adults need to pay for subscription.

I will say I'm not a great sports fan so dont bother to much with sports channel's but there does seem hundreds of them, one of the benefits of the android box is watching programs without adverts, watched all the Christmas specials boxing day ,Dowton Abbey etc.without adverts.
Just tried Sky sports, Sky movies, Disney, and a few American / Canadian channels ABC, Starz, no problem, all regular UK channels available through filmon.

Normally suggested internet speed is 5 mbit and UP but for example I have an ADSL internet which my speed max 3.5 mbit and it works properly "whiskeyjoe".

I installed this system to one of my customer, his internet speed was 2 mbit + and he said system works OK which I also didn't expected.

If my internet drops below 2MB live tv tends to buffer,so has said a good stable wifi provider is the key.

Hi. Mag devices have different subscription with MAC address.
Once you have subscription for Mag device you cannot use anywhere else only that device.
If you sign up except Mag device you can use with any device like an android box,smart tv, laptop, pc , tablet, iphone , ipad etc. but not at the same time...

Hi Steve,

Any Android TV box is OK for system. You can buy anywhere if you know here or from the south.

MXQ , M8, Q9, HIMEDIA or similar is OK for system or any MAG device, but once you have subscription for androids you can use your subscription anywhere.

Some android boxes doesn't playing well on Youtube (1920 x 1080p) but for the system it works on any brand.

Also, do any boxes give you the option to record programmes? Or can you add storage to the box, or attach the box to a recorder?

Normally you can connect hard drive or USB flashdisk to any android box but software should support for recording.

4K is a new future, if you will not think to buy the TV with 4K support so you don't need to buy 4K.

I know that android boxes are considerably cheaper in the UK, e.g. from ebay, and Amazon, but often the quality of the 'set up' of these so-called 'fully loaded' boxes is sub-standard, no matter what the advertising blurb says. I've bought quite a few, and I can vouch for that!

Satellite Cyprus supply a variety of tested android boxes which are simple to use, and reliable. I know, because I bought one to try it out - and I was so pleased with it that I then bought another one second hand that someone was offering for sale on here.

Although they are more expensive than buying in the UK, you do have the advantage that you have someone local to contact in the event of issues, and that they do offer a warranty (without having to ship the box back to the UK, as I had to do with one of my 'ebay' ones!).

You can install whatever 'free TV' packages you like, using Kodi / XBMC - including the 'free NTV channels' which you get as part of a Multimax subscription - and incidentally, the picture quality on these NTV channels is excellent, and I've never had any problems watching them which was not attributable to my own installation. As the OP says, unless you have a 4K-enabled TV, there's no point in buying a box that's '4K capable'

The VIPTV package does sound like good value, for those who want to watch live events, although I generally prefer to watch 'catch-up' at times of my own choosing, 'cos my body clock can't cope with the 2 hour time difference - I do realise that Sports aficionados are a tougher breed

You wrote very valuable comment & mostly I agree with you.

You wrote my package does sound like good value as your opinion, for those who want to watch live events, although you generally prefer to watch 'catch-up' at times of your own choosing. Yes it's acceptable for 'catch-up'.

As my opinion, usually people are looking for cheaper or free solutions and everyone knows that mostly subscriptions are not legal except original boxes with cards.

I just checked official Sky UK web site. The offer prices will end on 25th Feb 2016 and prices by package by package are
£20.10 + £24.12 + £24.79 + £30.48 = £99.49 per monthly for full package with full features I think. This is of course the best to buy original and use FULL HD without internet/never problem! This costs totally almost £1200 for one year and you need to registered and live in UK if I'm right.

I cannot say my package is %100 perfect but if someone is looking for SKY UK (accept mostly SD quality) especially old Flat TV's which someone still use quality is good enough and also more than SKY channels.
Someone likes to watch other channels. Italian/Netherland/Deutchland/Arabic/Portequese/French/Albanian etc. channels sometimes have original language (as English) Movies or (as English) Sports or may some others and system is almost 1250 channels now. You can watch any sports, Champions/Europe league except UK package.
I accept all 1250 channels not always working perfect, sometimes some of them reasonable problems for temporarily and UK/DE/IT packages are main ones. It shouldn't be a bad package.

Some people like to buy just the android boxes etc. and watching free ones as you said or buying service from someone else. Acceptable.

I'll jump in before the OP, just to test whether my understanding is correct - I'm sure that he'll put me right if not...

The second part of your query asks if the system has a 'catch up' facility'. The programmes available on this system are all 'Live Streams' - i.e. the broadcast times match those in the UK, making it slightly inconvenient to watch late night programmes for those of us who are two hours ahead. However, the OP did state that an Android device with suitable software would be able to record the material - in effect, providing your own, personally managed, 'catch up' service.

Which leads us to your first question...

Short answer "NO"!

As far as I am aware, there is no easily accessible, practical method that the average human being (and you know who I am excluding from this category ) can use to enable access to this service on a 'Smart TV' without using an external device such as an Android TV box, laptop, or whatever. I'm not saying categorically that it is impossible, simply that I couldn't do it, and I don't think that you could.

I am often asked whether it is worth buying a 'Smart TV' to use in TRNC, and my answer is "NO" - you are much better off spending £50 or £100 on an Android or Linux box (or under £30 on a Raspberry Pi !! ) which will enable you (by using freely available software) to access any TV programme or Movie that you desire, at a time that is convenient to you, and to store them (i.e. record them) on your own system if you so wish (just in case t'internet is 'iffy') .

Having asked my advice, people often still go and pay hundreds of pounds more for a 'Smart TV' in the belief that "You only get what you pay for", and "It must be 'better quality' if it costs more" , and then find that it's not all that 'Smart'.

I like and use my 'smart TV'. Yes the sources of content it can access are limited to those specifically 'supported'. Yes it requires some 'trickery' to make it look like it is in the UK AND a paid for third party service - though really getting this set up is not too difficult, though understand for someone like my mum she would need someone like me to do it for her. However once set up, for me and the content that I want access to, I like it.

Some general caveats.

Not all smart TV's are the same. Not all smart TV's from the same company are the same. What services they support (have apps for) and how well they support those apps (meaning how efficiently they fix problems with them when found and make changes to them when things change at the source for that app) varies from specific TV to TV. Mine does have apps for the services I want to use and to date is pretty good re 'support' of those apps. Though for example when I first bought it it did not support ITV Hub (then called player) - that app for that came out around 6 months after I bought it.

Smart TV built in web browser - for me this is a worth less and point less feature. Again exactly what standards (and therefore services) that the built in web browser on a given TV supports varies massively. It can also vary over time for the same TV. In any case even though the web browser on my smart TV does technically work with things like say filmon - I would rather stick needles in my leg than use a TV web browser to browse anything - gesture control or even with wifi mouse / keyboard set up.

Networked TV vs Smart TV. These are not the same thing. Essentially every smart TV will be a 'network tv' but non smart TV's can either be networked TV or. Network TV is again a feature I like and use in my TV. It means that once set up, any DRM free content I download say on my desktop computer. I can then play on my TV - within the limits of 'supported formats' that the TV can play (which again varies from Tv to TV and over time on a given TV).

System is working on SMART TV's & very easy to install. No "catch up" at our system yet. I am working on it to find more alternatives about "catch up" for UK programmes.

Application compatibility is important. Usually IP TV systems works on SAMSUNG or LG brands smart TV's.
Other ones especially "Made in Turkey" brands doesn't have market to download IP TV apps.

I can install any Smart TV around the world from my computer which is "SMART IP TV" utility already installed by user from apps market.
I just need TV's MAC address.

Indeed the net has been very slow over the past week or so, however not really slow enough to effect SD services at all on IPTV. I've had some issues with my HD channels, but no issues what so ever on my SD alternatives. A lot also depends on the bitrate from your iptv supplier.
