KODI smart TV box.......T8
We have already downloaded KODI from the internet (with help from BB members) and have been advised by a friend that the new T8 box is by far the better option, though will cost in the region of £100+
Would appreciate any thoughts\ideas on whether its worth spending the money

no not worth the money if your current box works ok
I have kodi on my mobile in cyprus on an android box I have a firestick with kodi and in the uk an acer 2 TB media center also on my Laptop
The mobile is a bit clunky
The laptop is for the emergency so never use
The android box is ok but limited by internet speed and reliability from time to time in the TRNC as we have experienced recently
The firestick is ok and good for hotels
The Acer 2tb is not much better than my £45 android box

I would not spend that much money on that, they all come from china anyway. http://www.aliexpress.com gives you the best options, its like a chinese amazon.
i have a couple of these boxes, they really are great and work well in trnc

I have a variety of android and other devices running KODI, including a Minix box that cost me far too much, and a couple of Raspberry Pi's that cost less than £30 each.
They all work fine!
Newer devices, even 'budget' ones, have 2,4 or even 8 processors, and are more than capable of streaming TV without any problems

Just had a KODI MX Pro 4k. installed. Bought off eBay and cost fractionally over half the price you are quoting. At the moment running 3 laptops, Kindle Fire, a PC, android phones plus thousands of channels. Still has masses more capacity I gather, which I doubt I will use

Still looking at options....
Taking into account the intermittent internet service in the TRNC, are any of the devices mentioned above capable of downloading films IPlayer etc to the hard drive, or are you limited to watching with buffering ?

I don't know if it helps but I get up in the morning and download the night before programs that I would have watched via Catchup through a MAG250 box and onto a Hard disc.cjtill wrote:Still looking at options....

We then watch them that night. We are day behind, but at least we can watch an evenings TV without any buffering. Not much good for the News though !

Edremit E,
We download only from the BBC iplayer using the VPN supplied as part of the Multimax package.
Can you (using your system) download any other items ?
With the erratic TRNC internet the only way to enjoy programmes is from downloads
Would appreciate your comments.

Yes I can download any channel I want (Not Sky) it is all on 14 day catch up. I just pick what I want from the previous night and download it. It only downloads one by one, but it queues every thing you've asked for, then we just watch them that evening. I dont have to use a VPN, which I think slows down the internet even more.cjtill wrote:Edremit E,

The thing is if you watched "News at Ten" here live it would be 1 am in the morning. I think this way is best.
I'm just about to sign with my third internet provider. I give each of one a month, sorry I gave the first one three years but I won't mention who they were.

Eggs,
Can you get subtitles, like you can on iPlayer?I don't know if it helps but I get up in the morning and download the night before programs that I would have watched via Catchup through a MAG250 box and onto a Hard disc.

How do you download to an external hard drive from a mag 250 box?

You just plug your hard drive or USB key into the back of the MAG box. Then you go to the catch up page on the TV and choose the program you want to download. Along the bottom of the screen there are a series of coloured buttons that correspond to the coloured buttons on your MAG remote. The yellow one says download, just press that and it starts. When it's finished go to the option of USB media on the screen and its there.Spud50 wrote:How do you download to an external hard drive from a mag 250 box?
