I'm being driven crazy by spam text messages sent to my mobile phone (Turkcell sim) and I can't stop them because they don't have a number. The messages come from Yenibakis and Bilgapaketi and are in Turkish. I receive approx 6 a day. My partner has the same problem. Are we the only ones and can anyone offer suggestions on how to stop them. I tried to block them but you can't if you don't have a number.

If you mean BILGIPAKETI, my wife and I get 2 text messages each day. I have put the word BILGIPAKETI into my spam folder and tried to put it into my blocked numbers, but to no avail, as I do not know the number.

Not driving us nuts, but moderately annoyed!!

I finally got into town yesterday and saw the very nice Turkcell lady at Karakum Lemar. I gave her my phone and asked her to stop the messages which hopefully she has. Today will be the test of that.
However, I must warn everyone who is receiving these spam texts. You are being charged for them! I was getting 6 a day so was not happy to learn that. I'm so annoyed that Turkcell did this without my permission. Any more dirty tricks and it will be Telsim for me.

Did you get any explanation as to how and why you were being charged for receiving texts?

I can't see how that would work...

I might be wrong but I think if you type CANCEL and send to 5656 this will stop it, it's something called Smart secretary service and gives you daily exchange rate, emergency chemist etc

Thank you for the 'Heads up' on the Smart Secretary Service Loobyloo!

There is a webpage on the Turkcell site that explains it - in Turkish, and unfortunately 'Google Translate' rather makes a hash of the page - see here

It would seem that if you inadvertently subscribe to the service, then it charges you for sending an alert for various events (including missed calls, amongst other things).

I'm not entirely sure that this is what Fesenjan123 was experiencing, but a (somewhat garbled ) summary of the service is: -

"Smart Secretary - Smart Alerts

Or if one call and I are busy or can not be reached "do not say.
Secretary smart and intelligent alerts.

Smart Secretary condition regardless of your left you can record your voice message and allows you to listen anytime.
In addition, the Smart Alert service will send you the number of those who leave messages to your cell phone!
googleplus

Beğendiniz mi?

How I Pay

- You can call 8787'y to listen to messages left for you. Secretary Smart search service, 39 Cent per call / 7 charged as units.
- If you open Smart Alert service, you will be charged as 2 SMS / 8.77 Knt for each incoming SMS.
- Leave a voice message, on your schedule you have chosen will be charged as calls to Northern Cyprus Turkcell number.
- If there is sound in your current tariff package, messages left minutes are deducted from your package.
- International roaming tariffs when abroad you are charged when you leave a voice message."

Thanks guys, very useful info. I was being charged for these texts and no way did I subscribe to any service. My phone is just used for texting and calls only. I asked the lady why this was happening and got the Cyprus shrug. She said that people or companies get your number and it happens. I said no, Turkcell is obviously giving my number and she just smiled.
It's obviously a scam to make money and they are trying it on in the hope you won't realise you are being charged.

Anyway, looking at my phone she sent a message to 4747 saying IPTAL BILGI.

Hopefully this info may help anyone else who has problems with this.

Bit early to say but no texts so far this morning

Fesenjan123, are you still text-free? Did it work? This is a very useful thread. Thanks.

Not sure if it worked for Fesenjan, but it seems to be working for me! Yesterday I sent a message to 4747 saying IPTAL BILGI and have not had a text from them since; fingers crossed!

Incidentally, I am not convinced that you are charged for these texts, because despite receiving two of these texts a day throughout February my bill was only 8.5TL.

I'm glad to say I'm text free from Bikgapaketi (so far). However I'm still getting a daily text from Yeni Bakis which I believe is a newspaper. I had asked the lady in Turkcell to stop that one and she said she had, but it clearly didn't work. I will have to go and see her again.

As for charging for these texts, all I can say is that was what she told me. I will try and keep a check on my balance to see if I am.

Well, it works; neither my wife nor I have received the texts today.

Thank you Fesenjan.

If you are on Pre-Paid (PAYG) and don't have a monthly account, then dial *123# (ENTER)

To find your unused monthly data allowance and expiry date, dial *123*45# (ENTER)
