Whatever happened to the proposal to enable both sides phones to work over the border. lots of hype then nothing

I think that the technical people had sorted out what needed doing, but then it was pointed out to the GC side that it would be against GC Law for them to enter into any sort of a deal with an 'Illegal, Non-recognised Telecoms organisation' - and of course, our side aren't recognised by anyone (except Turkey) - so that was that!
