We went into a Turkcell office this morning to register and the people behind the counter could not understand why "all the English" were going in with their phones if they had a Contract. "It is not for you people, only PAYG, do not worry" I asked if he would confirm that and he typed my number on to his PC and then showed me a text from Head Office confirming our numbers were Contract numbers. Four of us then left the office, happy Bunnies. Life is too short to stand in an queue without cause!!!

Lots of forms in the Turkcell office near the old British Military Cemetery in Girne and helpful staff, who know what to do and have good English. Need passport and 'phone.

Did ours last week at Turkcell in Girne near the George. No physical forms to complete, all done electronically

Quick question about the sim card stuff. We have a UK sim card from Vodafone that we normally use here but it is in a local registered phone bought here last year. However because we need a Turkish sim card to do residency we have had to buy one for the month. It is now in the Turkish registered phone but if I put it in my old UK phone will it still work for 3 months? I appreciate I will have to renew the sim card every month but with a bit of luck and a fair wind the residency 'should' be sorted by then.

Main reason is that we use the local registered one for the sat nav if we go over the South as the old phone doesn't have a gyro so can't tell which way you are facing and is rubbish to use as a sat nav.

Well it wasn't but I managed to use the new sim card bit that was left over and it fits.
