Cost of registering iPhone 8
I am thinking of buying an iPhone 8 while I am in the UK over the festive season. Does anyone know how much it will cost to register it in TRNC. Alternatively, does anyone know how much I would be for anew one in TRNC?

Re: Cost of registering iPhone 8
No idea of cost for registering, but you can check prices of iPhones online here.
https://sharafstore.com/
You can also check at Turkcell and Telsim, but have to go into individual items to get the cash price.
https://www.kktcell.com/en/devices
https://www.kktctelsim.com/cihazlar
Haven't looked into comparisons for iPhone, but did compare Huawei and Xiaomi phones earlier in the year on those websites and found the first link to give the best prices for what I was looking for, they certainly had a much bigger selection.
Edited to remove out of date link

It is an import tax. Local companies here that are in the business of selling mobile phones have to pay import taxes and the system is designed to ensure that mobiles bought elsewhere but used here for more than 90 days are also subject to such duties.cranfield wrote:cost of "registering" a phone ?

If you get a Vodafone sim card you can use it here under their roaming conditions for no extra charge. Then you won't need to register the phone here.

Re: Cost of registering iPhone 8
There was something about the cost of registration being 30% of the TRNC valuation of the phone, but seeing as we don't know what that is, not of much help. Suppose if you did bring a phone over from the UK, make sure you have a receipt, just in case TRNC value is higher, it might help.

It doesn’t matter how much you pay for the phone in the UK. Customs have a list of phones with values on it and they use that value x 30%.

30% import tax that's sounds excessive! Do the local companies pay that when they import mobiles? I think not.

Buy one here deduct the cost of import duty then probably not a lot different to uk price and no hassle.

I believe it is current value. But they have their own list of values. I brought a iPhone5 over last year and duty was not much, something like £20.
No harm is asking, if too expensive get yourself a cheap mobile phone from over here with TRNC sim and keep your UK tel number on you iPhone 8. If you are with Vodafone you can make local calls with that too within your call package as well as calling back to UK.

Think they have changed the website a bit. Am sure they used to have an English option too, but can't readily see it, so you will have to use Google translate if you need English.charlybrown wrote:alphamike Hi first sight doesn't seam to be working is it no longer available
Try https://sharafstore.com/ or for viewing just the phones https://sharafstore.com/product-category/telefon/

I have UK Vodafone which works (calls etc) as Soner says, but last year I was unable to top-up my PAYG at the Alsancak Vodafone shop - "UK Vodafone phones can't be topped up here" - I had to do it online... So there are some limitations.Soner wrote:My package is from UK. I am not sure about TRNC packages.

Re: Cost of registering iPhone 8
I've also got PAYG with Vodafone UK and top up online. Never even thought of trying to top up at any of the Telsim/Vodafone shops here. Does Vodafone in UK allow you to top up another (Vodafone) country sim in their shops?
