Before I left UK I phoned a Telsim mobile number using my free international minutes allowance but was charged for the call as Vodafone UK can’t seem to grasp the fact that TRNC is not Turkey

On Vodafone website there are maps that highlight in red whole of Cyprus as being included In EU allowances so logically my contract should include free allowances for North Cyprus.

As a lot of you (Using Vodafone UK) are already aware in practice this is not the case and the same confusion applies to roaming charges as covered by previous topic by others.

Vodafone UK customer service have kindly (without quibble) extended free roaming charges to me ‘whilst in Turkey’ (Cyprus) until 7th July and have agreed to refund my international call from UK to ‘Turkey’ (Cyprus) but they still can’t get their heads round the fact that I am in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, not Turkey!

I am writing this post to encourage other Vodafone UK customers In Cyprus to check out the highlighted maps on Vodafone website relating to your Vodafone package and to keep the pressure on Vodafone.

Might make a difference, Might not but, worth a try.

This will always be a problem as most of TRNC is on Turkish comms. Certainly once over the mountains towards the coast you'd be hard pushed to keep your signal from the republic if that's where you started. As long as the network providers recognise Cyprus as a whole island, as do the EU and UN etc, they should provide a refund as they did with you and myself when i was with EE.

Networks cannot differentiate between Turkey and TRNC when registered on Turkey network. I always keep the texts i get saying "Welcome to Cyprus, did you know" etc, and "Welcome to Turkey" etc, as at least I can ask the network providers to explain how i could possibly land in Cyprus at 1.30pm and then Turkey 23 minutes later!!! That's always a good one.

The easiest solution, although more costly for some, depending on how often you visit, is to go Unlimited Max which covers free roaming in Turkey (TRNC) anyway. Plus as i have found, registering on Vodafone when arriving in TRNC enables me to watch my Virgin Media, iPlayer, UKTV Play etc while there, no VPN, no problem - just another bonus.

I spent several hours speaking to Vodafone on this same issue.
I explained 0533 0548 and 0392 area codes are North Cyprus not Turkey but it seems it is beyond
Vodafone's technical ability to manage this.
Eventually I got through to the complaints division who gave me a credit for a £3 per month Turkey bolt on that does the trick.

I have a Big Value Bundle for £10 a.month and Turkey is included in the Pay as You go Europe Zone,I can't see any information on Vodafone's website that this will change in the near future. £10 gives me 250 minutes a month but other options are available.

If any of you do decide to switch to Vodafone's Unlimited Max plan, speak to their cancellation team first. Without hesitation they offered me a large monthly discount to reduce the cost to £22.50 per month instead of £30. The plan is a 24 month contract (subject to annual RPI adjustments) after which the cost would revert to £30 per month, however they also extended my discount period to a total of 27 months. Definitely worth the phone call.

I use a big value bundle which has always been plenty for me, sometimes just a £5 bundle so don't want to get into £30 per month type stuff. Filled in a complaints for and just got a ringback this morningt, confirming changes to turkey from July, but the guy said he didn't think North Cyprus. I tried to explain but was hitting a brick wall. I would encourage you to all fill in the complaints form or call them the more that do it maybe there is a chance it won't happen. If it does then I'll just buy a very basic local phone and do it that way,

Thanks for the above info. I have been offered a deal to upgrade to unlimited max and something I may have to consider further in July if the free roaming in Turkey (North Cyprus) finishes. I have been advised also that there are no international mins in the unlimited max unless you upgrade further to the entertainment package so apart from roaming this package would cost me a lot more for less.

See the small print at the bottom of your second picture. It does not say whole of Cyprus and as you have already found out many of the staff have no idea it is divided. It comes under Turkey and I have been told by more than one member of staff that it will be treated as Turkey. Hence I opted for the discount package of £22.50 for the Max Unlimited. If after July we find that it does not change and we are all treated the same each side of the border I will be contacting Vodafone and telling them their contract with me was agreed under false information and I will be requiring a refund.

Vodafone as a company have always recognised that N Cyprus is on a different telephone system to the ROC - a quick Google search shows a 2016 tariff guide that explicitly highlights that ‘Cyprus’ excludes the North. So it’s pointless quibbling about this with their employees who clearly don’t know, and just accept that sometime this year Vodafone is removing Turkey AND N Cyprus from all of its roaming except the most expensive plan. But, as myself and others have pointed out, for contracted plans the price on the ticket is there to be haggled, and discounts of 30% + have been given (if you are prepared to spend hours on the phone with their operatives). I’ve detailed elsewhere on the forum that, taking into account the cost of the Entertainment side package included with my plan (Spotify Premium), I am spending just over £13 a month for unlimited calls, text and data, plus global roaming and 100 mins EU calls.

You need to set it up before you leave the UK apparently. I did mine last time I went back. Ring them and ask them to sort it for you.
