First Time Residency - told to go to Lefkosa??

Went to Girne Police Station this morning to start or our residency, got to the Immigration office at 11.00am. Presented all the appropriate documentation (stamps are now 14TL) and was told that we needed to go to the Immigration Office in Lefkosa to apply for our residency. This contradicts the information on BRS website and guidance we had been given by friends.

Your valid passport, and a photocopy of the photo page
•2 recent passport photos
•A photocopy, of your property sale contract, kocan (deed) or rental contract in your name
•Local bank statement showing holder's name and latest balance
•(Typically you will need to have £10,000 or tl equivalent, per person)
•TL 14 in revenue stamps
•Original letter from your local Muhtar, bearing two signatures and 1.30 TL revenue stamps. (This is required to prove your residency address)
•Married couples should produce their marriage certificate, with a photocopy

Is this a new procedure or should we try again? He never gave a reason just said that we needed to go to Immigration in Lefkosa and that they may approve it??

Did they go to Lefkosa or did they try again in Girne?

It was 10.5 TL in stamps last Friday at Lefkosa so don't see how it could have jumped to 14TL.

If the information on the BRS website needs changing, perhaps you could point it out to them. However, I thought that it wa s now all done direct at Lefkosia.

I would not think it was worth going to the police station again. Lefkosia it must be. And it seems that you have all the documents required. Good luck.

If you need blood tests I thought you had to go to the police first then Lefkosia with the results

Went to Lefkosia Immigration office today. Produced our documents etc and was questioned whey we hadn't bought a residence. We explained that we are renting (with a view to buying in the future), have a car and daughter at ESK school. They eventually gave us a small note to take to Girne Police station that approves our residency. We then went to Girne Police station, produced our note + docs and was told that our Muhtar's letters were out of date. They have to be within 2 months! So we are a little but further but need to see our Muhtar again.

It seems that they are reluctant to give residency to us (and others??) because we are renting rather than buying.

Still a little confusing Understand that your were sent to immigration in Lefkosia....was this because when you went to the police station originally they noticed you did not own a property and sent you there to get clearance as you were renting? Then immigration office give you some paperwork to approve residency and send you back to police station....one would presume they did this because in fact the police do as is advised on the BRS website start off the process. Ok so muhtars letter is out of date but again one presumes that had it been in date the police station would have started the process?

All a tad confusing....think when we start in a month or so we will go to police station first and see how we get on. If process has not changed then hopefully they will check paperwork and give us the paperwork to get the blood tests etc.

OR maybe the process has changed - who knows. Whatever, we expect a day or two of running around

Maybe in a few weeks time things will be clearer - will look forward to reading more.

Stamps are needed for the initial application when you first get your pink/blue book. I think you then have to get the additional stamps for the passport.
