Re: Buying a car
You would have to register it at customs change the number plates and pay a large import duty.

Re: Buying a car
If you reside in the RoC, you may purchase a car there and use it in the TRNC. I know of at least 2 couples who own property in both areas of administration and they use their RoC vehicle whilst living in their TRNC property. I know not if that is legal, but they do it and still have their cars after a good few years. Interesting legal point if you're that way inclined.

They have been lucky then I know a few cases where cars have been removed by customs .Crossing over every 90 days does not cut it anymore apparently.

However, if they reside in the RoC also, are they not entitled to have a car registered there?

Surely if you own a car registered at an address in the south, and have insurance for the north there should not be a problem?

Re: Buying a car
Just to add to the confusion - why not, its Christmas - according to the lady in the imports office in Lefcosia, the only items allowed to be imported for personal use from the RoC to the TRNC via the crossing points must have been produced (made) in the RoC! Nothing else is allowed and she will not issue any importation documentation for anything not produced in the RoC. I found that out when I wanted to legally import a pergola (made in China) from Superhome some years back - maybe its all changed now??
No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.
