Is there any rules or regulations in place to say that large dogs should be kept on a leash when walking along public roads.

Due to the lack of replies it seems that all the dog owners in the TRNC (that includes myself) are not aware of any rules or regulations regarding this topic, it would be benifical to all owners some with more than one dog if there are rules regarding this topic as if a incident does happen regarding this topic where does the blame lay.

Well, we wandered off a bit - we've not got into La-La land yet, though - we are still talking about dogs

Actually, I would also like to know the answer to exroyal's question, as my little puppy has been harassed on a couple of occasions by large dogs with their owners but not on a lead - I carry a BIG stick for defence purposes!

- And we are keeping the topic at the top!

I don't think it needs rules and regulations just common sense because if there was an incident then it would be irresponsible owner at fault, not the dog.

woodspeckie, I don't want there to be an incident involving my pet and someone else's large dog. It would be small compensation to be able to point to an 'irresponsible owner' and say "It's their fault" while my pet is laying mauled to death on the pavement...

I would prefer to be able to report anyone infringing the law (if it is a law) so that the authorities can act, and prevent the situation occurring where my pet is mauled to death.

I'm sure that we would all wish that common sense would prevail, but it obviously doesn't - every day I see large dogs on public roads and paths, with their owners totally incapable of controlling them.

So the question remains - does anyone actually know if there is any law or regulation covering this?

- Or taking dogs on beaches, come to that?
