Has anyone had experience of shipping a car to the UK ? Preferably in container with household furniture. Any idea of what happens re car at the other end ie Customs costs etc?

First thing to note is - it will halve in value - add on to the costs involved and it makes no sense in purely financial terms.sammydavis wrote:Has anyone had experience of shipping a car to the UK ? So you have to be very attached to this specific car or the car very rare for the effort and risks to make it worth it.

It can be in KPH but has to have MPH also. It must also meet Eu standards particularly safety glass etc. But if it’s a U.K. import then shouldn’t be an issue . As previously said it would hardly be worth it financially

Re: Shipping a car to UK
Hi,
You can send your car in a container with your personal effects or send it separately by a truck. You have a duty exemption right while returning back to the UK, for The UK registered cars there is no customs tax. Under some certain conditions, cars which have been bought in TRNC can be exempted from the customs tax. If you tell me the model, manufacture place and the year I can return to you with more information. Best Regards

Thank you KMR, I had previously made a note of your phone number etc so will contact you if and when the occasion arises. This was just a question to see if it is worth exporting our car to UK. The car is a Toyota RAV, 2006 model and probably Japan import. Interesting about the import duty.

Hi, thank you for considering us an option and sorry for the late reply. I was waiting for the UK customs’ answer. You can see their answer for your car:
Please see following info as requested:-
North Cyprus – full duty/vat payable
Commodity code 8703239000
Duty rate 10%
VAT rate 20%
Unfortunately your car is not under duty exemption in the UK.
Best Regards

Yes, when the time comes. That maybe in a year or two.
