This started just over a week ago and is noticeable because water is usually crystal clear. Pool man says is because we have overflow on for four hours out of 24 and we should now change to 6 hours. Four hours has always been perfectly acceptable in the past and with high peak electricity now in the mix we don't want to do anything unnecessary.

Sounds like there's a mixture of sun cream etc in the water.
4 hours on overflow should be more than enough to keep your pool clear.
Set the timer to run at the cheap rate, through the night.
Also if you run the pool pump when bathing that should do.

Could be the filter
How old is the sand in the filter?
Our sand is in excess of 10 years old, still filters well.

Run it on main drain to see if that helps. Imagine a glass full of muddy water, think of it overflowing, you are filtering the clearer part of the pool.
Has it been tested for free chlorine and total alkalinity?
You may need to floc it.

Jolly gel is great for those moments when it is not right but Cyprus Pools have run out, anyone know where to get some?

Jonnie, am going to suggest (tell) him to do a main drain (back wash) to check on the clarity, or not, of the waste water. I can't believe six hours is necessary. Am waiting to see if anyone else finds 6 hours essential, particularly if only one person for about 15 mins a day uses the pool.

I would say 3 hours is sufficient for an 8x4 pool with only 15 minutes use per day.

Quite important to run the pool pump when its on use, if on overflow as water however gently you swim water gets displaced to the ballast tank and when this is full generally goes out the overflow.
Customers have informed me to ensure the pool runs in the cheap periods but forgot about water displacement and holiday makers jumping in and playing Captain Splash!! Pool blows air when it next comes on and holiday maker very unhappy, pool man gets a telling off even though he did as he was told.
Yesterday I noticed the dust level from edremit across to karsiyaka must be exceptional high in the pools and various pool companies look after them therefore it was a general thing. The ones being used were slightly milky but the ones which weren't looked like they needed a good hoover. All looked great on Tuesday though so maybe the chemical levels has been affected by an increase in heat.

Do t forget the importance of Shocking the pool regularly especially when in use . This along with chemical balance will see it ok

We used to have this problem every summer when it got very hot. Changed maintenance company to Brison Pools 3 years ago. Never gone milky or green since. It's a big pool 18 X 9 all pumping done over night on cheap rate.
