you do not need pumps to empty a pool just put the filter to waste and run your normal pump

No need to tanker it out, just set the multi port valve to drain. Close the balance tank valve, open the drain valve. I would drain it gradually over a few days.

Hi Jasja,
I'm assuming you want to store the water while you carry out repairs?
You could store the water in an empty pool, neighbour etc,
dosing it with chlorine, while repairs are done.
Once you're ready, just tanker the water back to your own pool.

Actually I was thinking over this problem last week, at the end of the summer we are going to need the pool regrouting, and the lights in the pool replaced. I looked at our gloriously sparkling water and thought it such a waste to spout it over the side into the ravine.

Especially when some are getting no water at the moment. Does seem a bit ostentatious, and such a waste. I would use a submersible pump to reduce the level gradually and water the garden with it, and fill up our ten-tonne house tank weekly. I know it's chlorinated but if you only use it for washing, washing up, etc. then it should be OK. Not very good for tea and coffee, especially after the dogs have swum around in it.

The Vet said "Oh no! - Don't let them drink from the pool, it's bad for them!"...

...and I thought "That's about how much You know about animals! :) :) :)

I had a dog (bitch) who used to drink from the swimming pool all the time, she lived until eight years old when we had to have her put down after suffering from a stroke. Mind you she had survived six poisonings previously which might have added to her bad health.

Thanks for all your responses even those that went off subject (made me smile reading them). I think when we’re ready we’ll gradually empty it into the garden. It’s just such a shame to waste it. It won’t be done until the weather cools and I can’t swim. We’ll fill all the tanks that we can first of course. Just hate to waste it.
