HP Officejet 7610 printer scanner stopped working

This printer scanner is 8 years old and has given me very little trouble, but since we moved it stopped working. It keeps telling me this:
I asked a somebody here in Famagusta and the recommended somebody fro a company called 'digikey', the man came took the printer away, but returned it the next day and said they could not fix it and then said a similar machine - Epson- would be TL 12000.
It probably would be but I do not want to give up just yet. I have the original program disc and there seems to be an update on HP website, but I don't know what to do.
Anybody ??? Please!!!!! I would be so grateful, happy to pay somebody. I haven't connected it to the laptop with a cable.
