Local / private hospital
A friend of ours (UK expat) suffered a bad turn that turned out to be a mild stroke. He initially went to Girne hospital but was immediately sent to a private hospital (at 800 TL per night) without being looked at. Is this now the standard procedure for expats and are the national hospitals only treating local TC or Turkish nationals.

Re: Local / private hospital
If he suffered a 'stroke', he needed a neurologist. If the problem was heart related, then a cardiologist would oversee the treatment plan. Whatever the semantics of speciality, the decision taken was, I assume, in the patient's best interests and cannot be answered on this forum. Take the question to the head of the Girne State Hospital and seek his assurance the individual case will be thoroughly investigated and the results given to his relatives, not friends. Medical-in-Confidence rules are very strict as to whom patient's medical information can be released to and friends do not qualify unless nominated as next-of-kin.ttoli wrote:Could be any number of reasons , perhaps no cardiologist on duty ?

It is not standard practice however its quite likely that there was no one available for specialist diagnosis as often happens at the state hospital.

Thanks for all the replies, they all make sense.
There was me thinking they sent him to a private hospital to fleece him, Maybe I've been living here too long.
