GC students currently trying to block crossings at Lokmacı

Probably to commemorate the 1974 Turkish invasion/intervention Greek university students have organised a 3-day "Anti-the-Occupation" protest at the Lokmacı crossing. According to the article below, since Thursday evening the students have been swearing at those trying to pass and committing other "edepsiz" (rude) actions. The web-site advises those wishing to cross to be careful ... or to postpone it to another day.

How sad.....it just goes to show how the hatred is passed down the generations....will it never end...probably not.

Marc - Dont think students in the UK are aggressively racist, booze and free love not withstanding.

Have been racially abused by visiting Greek Cypriots for choosing to live in the so called Occupied Territory, probably the parents of the protesting students.

I am dumbfounded

the attitude of the students has very little to do with
"hatred" meaning an abstract or moral condition

that and the behaviour of greek cypriots to the so-called
occupied north (at larnaca our tc taxi driver had a
nationalist song screamed in his face)
has all to do what they once had and was gambled away
on their behalf by the junta and ultra nationalists:

total dominance on the island and countless homes, lives
and properties

we all know they have always two clear choices en masse:

come to some form of compromise which recognises that
later generations have made lives and homes where others
once were in posession

continue their pretty pointless active campaigns to isolate
and ultimately re-conquer the north

since the latter clearly is not producing results and europe
has bigger fish to fry, they can choose between sacrificing
an illusory world, or giving up something to get something

although the excesses of individuals is not to be condoned
...it never exists except as the symptom of something else

failiure to recognise that leads many to a warm and wooly
view of the enduringly bitter cyprus conflict

By the way, in my opening post, I wrote Greek students - that should have been Greek Cypriot, not Greek, though considering the allegiances of many GCs (for example the APOEL supporters) maybe that was a Freudian slip.

Also, the haberkktc report doesn't describe them as students, merely as youngsters, though it does say, that according to the GC media the event was organised by various GC university student groups. I suppose then the TC web-site is thus implying that the protestors might well have been youngsters more inclined to wave Greek flags at APOEL matches, than to be university students.

APOEL supporters, in general, support closer ties with Greece, are very anti-Turkish and would have been pro-ENOSIS pre-74. Have a look at this video :
