Are there any badminton clubs/groups? I live in Girne and work in Lefkosa so either of those areas is convenient.

Thursday at 9am -11am at the Sports Hall near the Wednesday market. May not be ideal as you say you work. Contact Cecily on 0533 830 4888 as she may be able to advise of any other times/dates.

Arapman, It is not so much a club - in the strict sense of the word - more a gathering of all ages of people of all races who like to come along and either learn or play. It is open to anyone of any standard. The rules are simple and can often be "bent" to suit the occasion or standard of play, after all it is not fair to have a high class player dictating stringent rules to a true beginner, no fun in that.

On the word "Fun", that is what it is all about, if you don't have fun then we have not tried hard enough for you. The equipment is not top class and we play on sadly tired roll out mats that are in need of replacement but at £5,500.00 (Plus transport costs, plus import tax) we can not afford them and exist at the mercy of the TRNC Sports Ministers' grace.

We meet - mostly - between 08:30 and 11:00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays - unless there is a Z in the month or the Sports Hall is needed for another event, we are at the bottom of the pile for Hall use but the management there try to help us in every way.

Cost is simple, we run an "Honesty" box for all - the first two weeks for new players is free as you may not like us - after that it is 5TL per day of play - squeeze in as many games as you can get!!!! Normal attendance is between 8 and 24 players so sometimes it is busy and sometimes you are worn out by 10:00!!!

The only stipulation is footwear, you must wear trainers of some sort with non slip bottoms, no sandals, boots or flip flops please and for sure nobody plays in bare feet. Only warning is the temp inside the hall - by June/July/August it can reach well over 45 inside and there are no fans or aircon!

Come along and give it a try if you want, we have a few spare racquets if you are a true beginner. Amongst the members we have Turkish, Russian, English and Tai so most languages are available from time to time - a smart phone can help all by the way - lol.
No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.
