ammunition explosion

I see posts and newspaper reports of the Interior Minister's demands to have ammunition stored away from residential sites and that is highly laudable. However, there are a few problems with this:

1. Military personnel must have their 1st line ammunition to hand in the event of a call to arms, it cannot be away from their base. If the 2nd and 3rd lines of ammunition are stored away from their bases, they must be guarded - more expense and more military personnel tied up on boring, soul destroying and mundane duties.

2. Moving bases within the TRNC away from residential sites will be massively expensive. They are scattered throughout the major cities/towns. Just look at Gazimagusa and Girne areas alone! Then consider Lefkosa. Who will pay for this major reorganisation? The fundamental fault lies with many previous governments allowing residential areas, hotel complexes etc to be built close to military bases. The brown envelope syndrome could yet come back to bite!

Relocating some of the bases would free up some prime beach side land, for, oh, I dunno, massive hotels maybe

Many more casinos, houses of ill-repute and hotels taking away the beautiful coastal areas. It's so called progress I' m told.
