Re: are expats leaving in big numbers ?
Hindsight is a wonderful thing, unfortunately in life decisions are made which at the time seem to be for the best and then regretted later. But those of us who find ourselves in this position should not be castigated for making the wrong choice. To all the ex residents of TRNC and those who are planning to leave, many regretably due to health problems, I can only wish you the best of luck for the future and hope you will be happy wherever you choose to settle. Life is far too short for recriminations.

I , for one, certainly do not castigate those who chose to leave here for whatever reason, certainly not those who go for health reasons or even because they made the wrong choice.
What concerns me is those who stay, but spoil it for others because they insist on a life style which is unnatural to the place and in the process damage the economy, infra structure and ecology, and then continue to moan and damage the country's reputation because it does not suit their particular conception of what it should be.

Rambling Rose-Please elaborate.
I can understand how incomers will affect the ecology-but how do they detriment the economy?

Philoz - Perphaps Rambling Rose was referring to people coming in and possibly working illegally. Maybe for cash in hand and thus preventing the local population from carrying out that work? Could of course be completely wrong!
I do agree with the sentiments of many who like me cannot understand those who make a choice to come and live in North Cyprus only to want to make it more like good old blighty or wherever they come from..that is a little strange. However as Sylv has said we all make life choices, some good, some not so good - the best thing is to stop moaning about it and do something. I admire those who admit they were wrong and have decided to move on...well done to them.
But for those that stay and moan because as Paddywack says they have not realised they are in the middle east not middle England...they are the ones who really do need to get a life.

Re: are expats leaving in big numbers ?
I had to make a trip to Girne hospital yesterday with a throat problem. I took a ticket, paid 15tl, and was seen within
20 minutes. Now I think that was rather efficient.
It's just past 7.30am, I'm sitting on this machine with a view of the sun capped mountain in front of me, and
the smell of jasmine wafting in through my window. Another wonderful start to the day.
It really doesn't take much to make me happy.

Don't live in the past, make new memories every day,

Re: are expats leaving in big numbers ?
Hi
From my viewpoint, having a company that moves both to and from Cyprus, we have seen an increase in the number of people leaving this year. Most return to the UK because of illness or bereavement, very few because of financial reasons or that their dream has turned sour. OK, it isn't the cheap unspoiled paradise it used to be, but if you'd just had a 'Summer' in the UK, life there seems not too bad at all. My Father spent the last twenty years of his life in North Cyprus, having retired there in 1972, comfortably off. At one time he could 'live like a king' if he just used his UK pension. Inflation was inevitable as the Country was so desperate for hard currency to buy and import vehicles and all other commodities other than the most basic home-grown products. One year I invested a small sum of money at a Bank in Kyrenia, for one year, at 42% interest. The following year it was 39%. Those sort of sums aren't sustainable, inflation had to overtake them. Eventually Dad was almost 'property poor'. But his attitude was 'it's a hand to mouth existance now, but there's always a drink in the hand...!' Like an old dog, he benefitted from the sun on his back, and never did leave. And I don't think he would have changed many moments of his life there.
Sorry, wandered of topic ...

Do not think it helps when property buyers are being blackmailed by developers to have to pay the develpers tax in order to get their deeds.
