Yesilteppe Ravine

There are some serious excavations occurring in Yesilteppe ravine. It would appear that masses of topsoil are being removed and this has uncovered what appears to be a small dam probably dating back to colonial times. The ravine must have filled in with silt and covered this up. Does anyone know if it is part of a water management scheme or such like or even what the thoughts behind it are.
Some are wise and some otherwise.....

Alsancak freebie which I saw today does mention they are doing work on ravines and flood relief etc ready for the winter - maybe this is part of that

This from the man that works the vegetable field on the Alsancak side of the ravine:

"The concrete wall that you can see is actually the original overflow channel, built by the Greeks. The current works will build two more overflow channels, each one a little bit further downstream, to create a reservoir with a capacity of 250,000 tonnes of water."
