If you visit a couple of months a year what is the best solution now going to be ?

How much to buy a local phone? how can you keep it topped up so you don't lose the number.
They certainly don't make it easy to visit this place do they, with all the 30 day visas etc

You can buy a new basic phone for £25 or thereabouts. A Turkcell SIM was 15tl the last time I looked, and if you top it up on line with the minimum amount every 5 or 6 months, that will keep the SIM active.
Use Skype on a laptop/pad/phone to talk to UK, either on your own wifi if you have it, or use the wifi in a bar for free ;)

Skype calls to UK landlines cost 1.4p per minute! — calls Skype to Skype cost Nowt, so get people organised before you leave...

Glad i went Unlimited Max on the last upgrade. Though i'm puzzled why they are withdrawing it on lower priced plans rather than at the end of the Transition Period which would have made more sense, and been fair to all.

My understanding was if you went Unlimited Max with a UK Vodafone line then you didn't actually get 'Max' when abroad pretty sure they set the limit at 25GB so if you mainly live abroad you don't get what you are paying for effectively?
Having said that i've not seen these new rules
Any advice here, ie read the smallprint etc?

Vodafone's timing cant be much more awkward too.
Trying to contact them just gets a message along the lines of due to the coronavirus we are experiencing .... blah blah blah.

So what is the monthly price of the 'max' plan which includes Turkey?

...All (apparently) relating to contracts and NO mention of payg...
I'm one of those sad, pathetic individuals who use a mobile "phone" to make - or receive - "phone" calls and a computer/laptop/tablet for the internet... I buy a £5 top-up about once a year...
(Could it be that I don't have that many friends? )
My OH has a "smart" phone, so we CAN use WhatsApp when wifi is available... (again, on payg...)

I have a Vodafone pay as you go sim and buy a recurring £5 big value bundle every month. Yesterday I got a text confirming that because I'm in their Europe Zone I can use my big value bundle at no extra cost.

I think mine is about £55 a month but that's with a Samsung Galaxy A90. The price depends on which phone you have on your contract. Mandy is still on her Samsung Galaxy A5 with Sim Only, 20GB, £11 a month and she got a text from Vodafone yesterday saying she'll no longer be able to roam free in "Turkey". She'll either go Unlimited Max on her next contract or stick with Sim Only, as we use mine for watching TV in TRNC and Interweb etc anyway. That way we get the full benefit of my unlimited plan.

Look here Chris. On offer for 6 months £15 but doubles up after that. Lots more than the £11 I pay a month now but then that ws at the end of it's contract and the discount was ending. Still far more than I would wish to pay. As mine is a UK phone and I want to keep that rather than have to register it here and lose the number I will go on the cheapest tarrif and only use it out of the house in an emergency. That way the £6 for that day will be far cheaper than £30 every month.

If you look at https://www.kktcell.com/faturasiz 3rd from the bottom is Tourist packages with 6 different options to choose from. Probably better to look at in with Chrome for translation purposes.

Edit:-
Actually you don't need to use Chrome, just found that the option to change to English is at the foot of the page, it used to be at the top.
