don't fancy the £6 per day and don't want unlimited

is there any other cheaper provider (UK sim) for someone that just needs to make occasional emergency calls when visiting?

either that or a basic phone purchased in TRNC will be my answer

I visit usually twice a year for 4 /6 weeks

thanks

Shame as being able to roam in TRNC was one of the reasons I stuck with Vodafone. Is it easy, and cheap, to buy a local prepaid SIM while visiting TRNC?

But an expensive option for making calls back to the UK. However the proliferation of free WiFi means that Skype/Messenger calls are easily achieved so that solves most people's needs... Just get some Skype credit and use it to phone home.

When do the new charges start? I was told by vodafone that because people were stuck in Turkey due to the virus that it wouldn't be until July.

I made a note to give 30 days notice on June 5th as I believe it ends one month later.

It is easy enough to buy a local sim card. Sim card has to be registered, so possibly best bought at a Telsim or Turkcell outlet where they can register it for you at no extra cost, you will need your passport.

There is also a requirement to have a non-TRNC bought mobile phone registered, only if you need to use local sim for more than 90 days. This is a bit more of a faff, and hence the reason why some buy a cheap basic phone here, to use if coming to and fro, as it's already registered and tax paid.
