The Council of Ministers meeting was completed. After the Council of Ministers meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Kudret Özersay announced the decisions taken. - We made decisions regarding the construction of Girne Hospital and the completion of Güzelyurt Hospital. The health minister will explain them. We looked at the financial situation. We talked about when it could be finished. - Citizens whose usual residence is TRNC, will be able to come to the country from 1 June as one of the TRNC citizens living abroad. Quarantine costs will be covered by the state. - charter flights from the UK and Turkey will be held in June. - Those who have a residence permit in our country as of June 8, even if they are not a TRNC citizen. Those with work, residence and student leave will be able to come to the country. When they arrive, they will enter quarantine and pay for themselves. - If the conditions existing today do not change and the conditions will be regulated in detail, as of July 1, tourists and other citizens will be able to come.

I have a flight booked into Larnaca on 5th July and am hoping the crossing points are open to residents by then.

If they allow residents in via ercan in the meantime (without quarrantine) we'll do that.

It says residents need to quarantine and pay for it . It also says tourists from july 1 . Tourists wont have to quarantine! Maybe say your a tourist! Im exoecting tourists will have to have a hotel reservation and will not be allowed outside. Be good for the casinos as thise customers generally dont go outside anyway

I'm happy to take a test before and after flying and to self isolate at home but no way am I going to quarrantine for 2 weeks.

I reckon sometime during June the quarrantine stipulation will be dropped.

Tourists will need to quarantine if in a particular risk group, for the other group a certificate is required. I posted a link on the other thread. Guess that means 2020 is a quiet year for tourism :-(

Rules are changing daily. The UK's entry rules will be binned after the 3 week review with hopefully air- bridges with the EU and Tukey.

It's a little confusing but as a resident it appears I can travel to the TRNC on 8th June and quarantine until 24th June. Or I can travel to the TRNC on 1st July with no quarantine. Not exactly a hard decision is it.

the statement was As of July 1, if the existing conditions do not change and the conditions develop more positively, tourists and other foreigners may come to the country as determined by the Ministry of Health. ”
Board Spokesperson Özersay explained that as of July 1, tourists will be able to come to TRNC under certain conditions and different procedures will be applied to those coming from high-risk or low-risk countries.

Will the UK be a high risk and not allowed in with no quarantine?

Wow. So about £600 for one way flight and quarantine ! Hope they work out a lower figure than that for the many non citizen residents desperate to return home here :(

The 5000tl was the cost of quarantine, flight cost wasn't included in their understanding.

That is too high imo. Somewhere between £200-300 all in would be more reasonable imo given the circumstances. Seems to me that for people simply wishing to return their homes in these unprecedented circumstances the price should reflect underlying cost as much as possible and not profit for airlines or hotels ?

So why not allow residents to self isolate at their homes but with the proviso that they will be subject to spot checks with heavy fines for those who transgress?

No matter how heavy the fine, it will not undo the harm if someone catches Covid-19 from a transgressor and dies!

Saw a bit in Cyprus Mail about a week ago reference cost of quarantine for those people returning who were not eligible and they were quoting 1500€ for the two week stay in the hotel! Seems that £200 - £300 is not so bad after all? It was a quote from a Govt source not just a rumour.
No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.

People are going to catch it in the absence of a vaccine.

Measures are necessary to slow the spread and to not overwhelm the hospitals.

Over 65s and those in poor health will have to be shielded. The rest of the world will have to get on with it.

The TRNC has done very well to contain and hopefully eradicate the virus. The quick lockdown of tourists in a hotel, the curfews, closing borders, stopping flights and also strict travel and movement measures worked. However being more isolated and difficult to get to made this easier to implement and control.

However; the hard part is now how to open up again. To keep borders/airports and ports closed is not a viable long term solution. Quarantine is an option but whilst this may work for those wishing to return it will not help those travelling for business or holidays. Some may say it’s the price that has to be paid, but sadly this will mean businesses on island closing as they simply will not be able to keep going.

Quarantine in a room in a hotel for two weeks might be be fine for some, but many would find this tedious. Quarantine in your own home is better but of course harder to police. Mind you if you were told that if you were found to have breached the rules then you would be immediately find and deported would likely concentrate the mind!

It’s a very fine line but at some stage the TRNC will have to open up. In the meantime I found this article of interest....it may be just one professors view but still of interest.
