This is the reply I had from the FCO regarding leaving Cyprus from Ercan and returning through Larnaca:-
Thank you for your email. As advised, and which you are aware, the borders are currently closed. I can only give information that is currently on our travel advice regarding local travel, which states:



British and other foreign nationals who have entered Cyprus through the north (such as via Ercan airport) are considered by the Government of the Republic of Cyprus to have entered Cyprus through an illegal port of entry. The Government of the Republic of Cyprus may fine you for illegal entry if you cross into the south, or refuse you entry into or exit from the Republic.

We cannot intervene nor ensure that you will be able to travel back in through the Republic of Cyprus without problems, however I would advise if you do choose to travel out of the north that you do not have your passport stamped but use the alternative visa slip.



I cannot comment on Political issues as previously advised.

Hopefully this will help some people wanting to travel to and return from UK. I do not hold out for early opening of border crossing

I think that says it all, Those who are of the mind to try other means of entry and exit are advised not to try it. It least that's my take on the situation.

Did not expect anything else really. The FCO are there to support the relatives, offer advice and enjoy the holiday. In my previous dealings with them and British High Commissions in other countries whilst I was a serving member of the armed forces, I swiftly learnt not to go to them for any help whatsoever. Best to ask the Commissioners of other countries for assistance which they are happy to provide - in most circumstances.

I guess that if you are a Cypriot then there are no illegal ports of entry in Cyprus as you can freely cross into the South having flown in from London via Ercan - interesting but typical of the RoC. I guess we had all better get behind it as it is the forerunner to Brexit anyway but I remain interested as one day I am due to be buried in the Dheklia Military Cemetery and just wonder how the RoC Undertaker is going to ship my remains to there.

Having paid all charges up front already, I do hope I have to be shipped by air via Athens and Larnaca at the RoC undertakers expense but I feel there will be a "BYE" that I will be allowed access to the SBA area's. When will it ever end I wonder.

as one day I am due to be buried in the Dheklia Military Cemetery and just wonder how the RoC Undertaker is going to ship my remains to there.

I have arranged for Head Office to pop me in our wheelie bin, our bin men seem to take anything.
I’ve asked as the van pulls away she might like to throw a flower in the back to give the occasion a little dignity.

They have a re-usable coffin in the back, and take you out wrapped in a shroud to put you in the hole, and then buzz off to collect another one

Keith, according to the "Blurb" the undertakers from the South sent me, I will be collected from my place of rest in the "Occupied Territory", taken to the undertakers establishment (see, you can get to go South if you try hard enough) well cared for (first time for everything I guess), treated with dignity (another first), washed (careful) and prepared for burial by being placed in the coffin provided (All coffins in the ROC have a viewing window - why? I won't be able to see out anyway) and placed in the room of remembrance for a day to allow for mourners! This seems like better service than I ever had with CTA - lol. The hearse (hopefully with me in the back) will be followed by the mourners to the Military Cemetery for interment (That's a civilian word for "Chucked in the hole") at the end of my chosen service. Either my country flag or service flag will be draped over the coffin and presented afterwards to the chief mourner. Of course if the boss snuffs it before me anyone can have the flag I guess.

Will let you know how it turns out - maybe - but looks better than the Green Lorry trip - lol.

Very dangerous too, who knows what diseases are getting passed from one occupant to the next. I've seen the belediye pouring weedkiller on the graves in the cemetery too, surely that's dangerous to the occupants.

I am just amazed that the FCO reply refers to the Green Line Crossing Points as a border!!!
Does that mean they recognise it as a hard border?
If so is that an admission that there are two separate states in Cyprus?
