Repair required.
Does anyone know someone who could repair an antique style brass hinge please?
Thank you.
Thank you.

Re: Repair required.
There's a fabricator of metal with working machinery from the Victorian era but whether he does brass I do not know. Hard to explain exact directions but here goes; having left Girne to Karaoglanoglu, pass Lemar and Stormax then left into the industrial estate and not too far up on the left a small frontage metal factory which is deceptive as it goes back quite a way. No English but take the broken hinge with skilled hand/sign-language or a speaking Turk friend.

Hi Brinsley
I know the area you mean, however there are two roads that up to the industrial estate.
The first one (coming from Girne) leads up to the top where you will find the Con Coffee factory, the second one has some shops either side as you go up and is almost opposite the Olive Oil factory.
If you know which road, out of these two, please let me know. If not, thanks anyway and I’m sure I will find it. The upholsterer up there speaks excellent English and he should be able to help.

From memory, the first left after Stormax (Con Coffee)

Unfortunately Sadi could not do the repair. He did suggest I could buy from a yapi market, but it would be the wrong shape, colour, size, thickness, etc! Great workshop if, like me, you are interested in that sort of thing. I got an O level in metalwork many years ago.
I will have to buy new from the UK.

If it is important to you, have you considered taking it to a jeweller? Silver solder would probably make a strong repair to brass.

Hi Bomdas.
I think that’s a great idea. The only jeweler I know is on the left hand side of a cobbled road going down to the old harbour.
I will try there.

Re: Repair required.
Tried jewellers. They said the hinge would definitely break again.
Will buy from UK.
Thanks for all the advice.
