We have some friend in the UK which aren't coming over.
His road tax expires the start of December, the car won't be used on the road, is there an equivalent here of a SORN or would he be fined for not taxing it?
Thanks

Unless things have changed - and they probably have since I started this reply - there is no such thing in KKTC as or similar to a UK SORN! Either tax the vehicle or don’t, if you don’t then when you come to tax the vehicle later you will be liable for all the back tax plus a fine - which changes with the wind - another thing to note is that if you do not tax the vehicle for, I believe 3 years, then the vehicle requires reregistration! An expensive business indeed. If your friends are intending to return at a later date, after current tax expires, they would be better off getting a friend to tax/insure their vehicle for them.
No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.

Yes the owner can sorn it but must be done either in 6 month or 12 month intervals like taxing. The dates do not change.

Re: A Turkish SORN
Sorned my vehicle many times. Need to go to the main office in Nicosia. Would recommend up to 10 days prior to the end date known with all your papers to fill in a form. In the form you need to state where off the road its gonna be not used. This costs nothing to do with terms 6 months up to 2 years from what they said to me. Bare in mind it better to keep doing it then extend for too long as you will have to pay back from the date schedule sorn if you put it back on the road. P.s the address is needed as the police will visit to see unannounced and no paper work is given to you at the office but once will be available closer to 6 months for that's how long it takes here and that was prior covid!!
Hope that helps

Yes, I did all that Dervis did a few years ago but ultimately the system failed miserably.............
when I went to tax it after the "sorn" period they charged me back tax AND a penalty.
The reason they gave - my information got lost between Lefkosia tax office and the police - and if the police don't know about it therefore dosen't exist.
Needless to say I never bothered again.
