Can any new news about the checkpoints crossing for UK nationals please be posted here without Brexit comments.

It will be easier than trawling through lots of long posts about Brexit etc.

What a good suggestion. I think many of us have had enough of the keyboard warriors on the other post

Totally agree. Factual information and NO rumours or gossip would help everyone.

Should this be implemented it will affect our children and grandchildren's travel to our home. All UK passports. However, just wondering if Irish passport holders (us) or, any Irish passport holders on the forum know if travelling from UK to Larnaca and crossing into the North and returning will also be problematic.

Seems to be the general opinion that crossing back to the south will be a problem

Tinlough, I assume you're referring to the North of Ireland. RoI should have no problems at all.

Yes we have RoI passports
Republic of Ireland will have no problem on the basis you hold an in date ROI passports which are legal and legitimate documents that allow freedom of movement within EU counties.
If you have for example used Larnaca or Paphos previously then it will be no change. Your previous authorized entries will be recorded both at port of entry and again at the green line when exiting/ re entering.

Thank you. The Children will await confirmation of the changes before booking new flights with Turkish Airlines. As none of us have travelled that route before and having had a look at the transfer in Istanbul, the shortest time is around 1hr 30 between arrival and departure. Does anyone have any experience of these short transfer times are they feasible in this large airport or should they be looking for a longer gap. They all have young children. Thanks in advance

We recently came from Ercan to Birmingham and an hour and a half is the minimum time you can do it in
We had three hours there and only had time for a quick coffee
With all the Covid paperwork it takes a lot longer to get through each check
Having said that it was a smooth process but be prepared for a lot of queuing!

We have transferred in 3/4 hr twice when plane was late leaving Manchester, you don’t collect luggage if you book the one flight UK to Ercan just directed straight through transit.

Always use TA via Istanbul to ercan. Have done for the past 15 years, no problems at all just one time when plane was very late taking off from Birmingham due to a medical emergency. TA is excellent and one hour 30 mins is fine. Have not done it since Covid, but they would not apply a stopover that is not achievable, it would cost them money for hotels etc if they did.

I've got a one hour transfer in May. I'll report back if the flight goes ahead.

I did an hour & half transfer in October last year and still managed a beer and a sandwich in the lounge.

There are apparently fast track paths for those with sub 90mins transfers.

Thanks all. Will let the Children know about transfer times in Istanbul and let them make their own minds up. Then no charge back on our cards. We are using last years tickets, hoping to travel in May into Larnaca, Irish passports in hand and copious checks beforehand. Hopefully, won't be reporting from Larnaca departures or TRNC border post.

keep in mind..the new IST airport is quite huge.
if the plane from UK is late, if you got the "wrong" gates, you have to walk a quite long distance in quite a short time.
elderly people and children may get some problems...

if you have the chance.. + 2 hrs are "more relaxed"..

same applies for the ECN-IST-UK leg. (still?.. other members recommendation required...)
the ECN -IST flights ARE sometimes late and in the past often got an "outside position" with bus transfer, which takes a long time till you reach the terminal...

There are electric taxis are available at the new Istanbul airport. I used one last year as I couldn't walk far. Something like 20 euros if I remember correctly. Well worth the cost.

20 euros, daylight robbery!

Are they free for people who require Special Assistance?

Yes they are free for people that need help.....

Actually if you catch a friendly person they normally let you jump on board for nothing

Here's a helpful video about short connections.

Avoiding the main security check is a great bonus

I agree, once we eventually taxied round to arrivals I had 45 minutes to transfer and this was pre covid. Not fun running the length of the airport to get to the gate as allegedly its "last call". Got there only to sit on the tarmac for 45 minutes.
