Third wave sweeping through Europe

Just when we might have all been feeling the worst was over,a third wave is now sweeping through Europe, with most Countries reporting big increases in cases.
Italy are going back into lockdown. France,Germany,Hungary,Bulgaria,Slovakia,Poland,Czech Republic are again struggling with big case numbers.
Several Countries have also decided AGAINST using the Astra vaccine which leaves Europe desperately short on vaccines.

Not a good sight (:())

Was reading an article yesterday that stated that Cyprus’s (south I presume) infection rate was 4 times that of UK.

All of the EU have virtually ditched the use of the Oxford vaccine. Anything political in this ? 37 cases of blood clots in 17 million doses.

It’s left Europe painfully short of vaccines and will no doubt definitely cost many lives.

I have no recently acquired expertise on this as some appear to have but I'd be surprised if there is any vaccine or medicine in the history of mankind that hasn't had some side effects of varying seriousness for a minority of people.
Those don't seem like bad odds to me

EU move against AZ is purely political and the medical evidence from their EMA will overturn it tomorrow. They are also stopping its export from the eu.

Meanwhile they are introducing digital green certificates for travel which will end free movement.

Spiteful shambles of a mafia like cartel.

Many years ago I read an article where the difference between the terms "side effect" and "idiosyncracy" were defined/explained in relation to drugs (including but not limited to vaccines) - "side effect" refers to unwanted/undesirable reactions in a statistically significant number of people, whereas "idiosyncracy" refers to the same reactions in extremely low numbers of people.
Apparently there have been several sources stating that the number of blood clots reported is no more than would normally occur....

I've never heard the word idiosyncrasy used in those terms, you learn something new everyday.

The number of blood clots is actually LESS than what would occur normally. Especially when you consider we have vaccinated the older population of society.
Talk bout biting your nose of to spite your face. Typical EU !!!

At the very least Paris and other cities will be back in lockdown by the weekend. Daily case rates now being seen in France suggest that in about 3 weeks the country will be up to around 500 deaths per day. Italy nearly there already. With this in mind the attitude to the Oxford AZ vaccine is just stratospherically indefensible.
Some are wise and some otherwise.....

Numbers of Covid + rising rapidly in EU and the public have no-one to blame but their politicians, playing politics (as they do). Then of course are the nay sayers (mostly religious fanatics who have been trying to convince people that the vaccines will a) alter the gender of young people b) stop younger women bearing children c) develop HIV d) cause autism and other mental concerns AND the list goes on and on. Have the vaccine and shut up is my advice (and I'm not a religious fanatic either).

They have ?
Even if they say it does, the risks are very low of catching it I've read are 2 million to 1.
25 million doses in the uk 5 with blood clots says all.

No I'm not now, but a number of my close family are and I'll take their advice all the way. 2 Million to 1 odds are better than good enough for me. Taxi drivers, bus drivers, long distance lorry drivers, plane passengers sitting in one position for hours on end, smokers are more likely to develop a clot than from a vaccine. Had my two jabs and extremely relieved to have done so.

The EMA looked at data from 20 million vaccinated people concentrating on rare bloodclots in the brain. 18 were found - inculding 5 from the UK.

They found no link between the vaccine and the condition. Indeed, the incidences were fewer than what would normally be seen. So the vaccine, if anything, protects against these blood clots too.

Germany, France, Italy, Cyprus, Spain, Portugal, Holland, Latvia & Lithuania have restarted the AZ vaccinations from today.

Unfortunately a lot of damage has been done and this will cost lives.

Greifswald scientists have provided an explanation for the thrombosis cases

Researchers in Norway had already reported a similar assumption on Thursday: Pal Andre Holme from the University Hospital Oslo had also said that he suspected that the formation of the clot via a strong immune response

Experts emphasize that such ideas about the possible process have so far been purely speculative.
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has not found any indications that the vaccinations actually caused the incidents.

According to The New York Times, similar cases have occurred in the United States after people received either the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccines.

Prof Sir John Bell, a member of the government's vaccine taskforce, criticised France for changing its vaccine advice, calling it "crackers".

France is refusing to give the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine to under-55s having previously said it was unsuitable for older people - a move Prof Bell said undermined confidence in the vaccination rollout.

"It doesn't make any sense. The whole thing looks completely crackers. They are changing the rules almost every week," he told Today.

"They are really damaging people's confidence in vaccines generally - not just the AstraZeneca vaccine.

"They are sitting on a massive stockpile of vaccines that they haven't deployed yet and at the same time they have got a massive wave of the new variants coming across the country. You couldn't make it up."

I see the French wont let go of the bone a lot more people are going to die from this

On a radio station yesterday in U.K. a journalist from France was being interviewed and the question came up about the lack of take up in France of vaccinations, he said it has been going on for years due to complete lack of trust in French Government past and present.

President Macron has not helped with his attitudes towards the vaccination for Covid. I was curious to know more and this article pretty much confirms why people are sceptical....... https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/ ... government

Seems like a lot of hard work needed to convince people.

In fact I've just done a seach of Hedge-fund's posts using the search term "remoaners' and there were zero results.

Almost 845,000 vaccinations announced for yesterday in the U.K.

Over the last 5 days it has gone up from 450,000 a day to another record today.

As I am volunteering at a mass vaccination centre this really is a fantastic achievement and makes it so worthwhile.

Makes me very proud of the British effort and thank you for your personal input.

I had my first jab a week ago and will be looking for my second in a fortnight. The Excel in London usually has up to a 1000 jabs unused at the end of each day and encourage people to turn up to use them up.

We'll then be ready to visit the TRNC in May :x))

What response would you like. Thank goodness we left the Union.

I think that the UK vaccine roll out success would be in place regardless of Brexit as would the life loss numbers.

Of course the 42% decline in exports to the EU trade is nothing to worry about as the UK vaccination program is the headline news … for now.

JCB...incidentally is a customer of mine and this particular business already has a global presence so losing EU trade is not so damaging as for most. The growth reports of JCB is great news.
I don't feel so inclined to comment further on the UK vaccination program. Its a success for no one to contest. Its so not important with regard to the bigger picture.
I had my jab last week. Astra Zeneca.
Some side effects for 48 hrs but i'd encourage everyone to take it.

Ban on leaving UK 'without reasonable excuse' included in new Covid laws in force next week.

A ban on leaving the country without a reasonable excuse is included in new Covid laws coming into force in England next week until at least early May.

The legislation for restrictions over the coming months was published on Monday, as the government sets out its roadmap for coming out of lockdown.

From March 29, leaving the UK is banned unless a person has "a reasonable excuse".

From March 29, leaving the UK is banned unless a person has "a reasonable excuse".

I think that is just an extension of the existing situation. The travel report should be out on 12th April confirming international travel from 17th May. The idea seems to be a traffic light system and most of the tourist destinations will be doable.

It’s the situation as it stands now.

What is probably more important is that the “data” has to be going in the right direction by the dates indicated before we move to the next stage of easing lockdown. If the data doesn’t look good the dates will slip.

Like many of us; I hope that the easing of lockdown will follow the timeframe announced. Given that many countries in Europe are announcing further lockdown measures it’s far from certain travel will be allowed.

I agree. If one thing is certain - it's that nothing is certain.
