Pool tax.?.

Hi. Just paid my council and property taxes at Esentepe Bele, to be informed that I now have to pay a pool tax of 10tl per square metre. This applies to private and communal pools. I enquired how do they know the size of the pool, and how many share the pool. Was told WE KNOW. So is this another light bulb moment of our lovely Mayor to fleece us? Or has anyone else from other areas been told this.

The tax, I believe, is passed on to the central government as when you get your Kocan you must get the receipt to show at the land registry.

This has been on the cards for years and some months ago Catalkoy sent workers around to every house to check if they had a pool and record how big it was. Apparently the tax is standard for cubic meter age and is the same no mater where your pool water comes from, if anyone has a pool the same size as mine and fills it from tanker or mains it will cost me the same even through I will fill mine from my well. Looking at earlier post I see nothing to complain about from Esentepe charging 10TL per cubic meter. My pool - when finished will require 10 tonne of water to fill it, 10 tonne = 10 CM = 100TL per year - bargain!

The pool tax was included in the Lapta property tax paid at the end of January.

It is a “Dip” pool, 3mtr X 3mtr X 1.4mtr only. Having had an 8X4X1.4 previously and only used it 5 or 6 times in a season because if we wanted to swim we went to the sea, when we moved to a new house with no pool we did not feel the need to have another of that size just to cool off. 8 years later we have decided to have a “Dip” pool instead. Cheap to run and fill and clean, uses far less water and still provides all the benefits of cooling that a large pool has. For us it is win/win on an island with limited water.

It does seem a sensible option if you like swimming in the sea when conventional pools use so much water.
Not much more but your pool will hold 12.6 tonnes water then.

Between 10 and 12.5 taking into account the set of steps - full width - inside the pool as well and how far up the flapper valve thing the water will actually come. It is always a finger in the air but a lot less than the normal size of pool and there is only two of us to use it so just the right size for us. Also because of pool size the pump only needs to be .75Kw which cuts down on the electricity use. Lots of thought (8 years) and trials on different blow up/setup plastic type pools went into the final choice, right or wrong it is now a big concrete hole in the ground - lol.

Whilst it has gone up considerably from previous years so has the exchange rate. Plus just under 40 quid a year is considerably less than you would be charged a month in the UK.

Totally agree with your last sentence, but the shock is in the last rise - 30% after the first three years, followed by 10% the next year - and then 279% ?
Even another 30/40% understandable, but (at least) 200% for a shared pool if that is the reason? When there are several properties sharing that pool, that tends to look like unmitigated greed...
How much next year?

I would query it because we have had our bill on a shared site and the rise is nothing like as much as that.

Jofra, have you checked with the other people sharing the pool. Are they also being charged 440.34? Even in these days of high inflation it certainly appears to be far more than expected. I did know of one case in Lapta, where some locals and Russians only visited their property on very rare occasions and completely refused to pay the same as three Expat families who lived there permanently. Guess who was being expected to pay the shortfall!

Update - a neighbour was able to view my Belediye bill; it appears to indicate that I have not paid my tax for some time....
I've actually paid at the local office every year since purchase, except last year (paid on line), but fortunately I've kept every receipt - so next time I'm able to get over, I will be visiting the main office with all documentation and "clarifying" the situation... ;-)
