Asked a friend if he was able to bring a golf trolley battery over when he next visits , does anyone know if there are any restrictions on flights.

When i last enquired only household & phone batteries were allowed inside the aircraft, and these were limited to amount and watt/hours. If phone batteries are found in your luggage you will probably be asked to open them for examination, and possibly asked to put them in phone, to show they are genuine.

Some types of batteries were allowed to be carried inside the hold, however they have to be in sealed containers, and notified to the airline in advance.

Regulations may well have changed, i suggest you check with the airline direct, rather than having a 'refusal to carry' at check in. Be aware most airlines now scan all luggage, or use 'sniffer' detectors as the luggage travels on conveyors to the loading areas, so if a battery emits any chemical fumes, it will probably be detected & removed.

external li-ion batteries are permitted to a size of 100Wh only.
sometimes after permission from carrier, 160Ah permitted.
a typical golf trolley battery has 24 VDC and approx 10Ah = 240Wh. not permitted.

lead acid batteries, wet (flooded) or dry (gel, agm) are nor permitted as hand luggage.
in luggage also not permitted
eg, as part of a wheelchair permitted.
