The radar sites on Troodos
After a discussion we eventually came to the conclusion that we had no idea who owned or had title to, the radar stations (golf balls) on the Troodos.
Are they Sovereign Base or on a lease ?

Re: The radar sites on Troodos
Could be..
RAF Troodos. Royal Air Force Troödos, commonly known as RAF Troödos, is a Royal Air Force station in the Republic of Cyprus.
RAF Troödos is a remote Signals Station run by 27 personnel from Golf Section,
Joint Service Signal Unit (Cyprus), and also contains Mount Olympus Radar Station.
The station is based deep within the Troödos Mountains,
approximately 14 miles (23 km) north of Episkopi.

The secrets safe with me. Would it be safe to say it’s a Sovereign base or on a lease from the GCs?

Re: The radar sites on Troodos
From Wiki - "Troödos Station is the oldest remaining British military base in Cyprus, dating from 1878. Initially it was used as a cool summer field hospital for troops from the Egyptian Campaign."

Re: The radar sites on Troodos
Of course "battleship Cyprus" has for millennia been of critical military importance.
An island fortress casting influence over the whole middle and far East.
Little wonder Turkey, UK , USA and others vie for a presence and influence upon its future.
Without Cyprus the UK historical middle East influence and involvement would be very different indeed.

Similar to Menwith Hill in Harrogate, UK, which is communications and intelligence for UK and USA.

When I joined the army the two tin cans and length of string was in the process of being phased out.
