[This has been edited to ensure that nobody gets confused as to the day of the planned power cuts]
Apparently they're low on electricity ... that doesn't sound good, does it?

So far we've got off lightly, no problems yet. Ours will probably go off when everyone else is connected.

Ours hasn't gone off yet either. Maybe it won't go off.benjaminbutton wrote: ↑Wed 11 Aug 2021 2:22 pmSo far we've got off lightly, no problems yet. Ours will probably go off when everyone else is connected.
Maybe it's sort of a threat from Kıbtek, because there are objections to the price increase they want.

We live in Boğaz (ie. between Girne and Lefkoşa) ... and ours went off for almost exactly an hour.

Instead of power cuts, why not collect all outstanding monies owed .as they keep threatening but never do.

Ah a common sense approach. Hmm don't think that will work then.

Has anyone at Kibtek got a watch? and if so can they tell the time? Here in Bahceli i thought we had dodged a bullet because we had power all day, and then at 7-20 it went off. Came back on around 8 40. So not only later than the 7pm stated but longer than an hour as well. Maybe it was Cyprus time!!!!!

Re: Kıbtek has announced that until 7pm this evening there will be 1-hour power cuts in all regions
To be fair:
Cyprus Turkish Electricity Authority (Kıb-Tek) announced that due to the lack of production, a one-hour cut will be made in all regions of the country, alternately between 15.00 and 19.00 today. In the statement, the public was asked to act as if there was electricity on the grid at all times.
If they had said “Every” region then we would all have had a cut at the same time? By saying “All” regions, I read it that some would have a cut - like we did - and some would not, bit of a raffle who lost and who won!
As for the timing, it’s Cyprus and time is not important here - more so if the man with the switch is watching his electric clock and forgot that when his power is off, the clock stops - lol.
Expect more of this in the future, Kibtek can’t operate without fuel and fully serviceable generators!

Said it before get the big debtors to pay up us honest folk who pay on time have to suffer because of them. If someone dies because of heat effects what will happen then? Nothing I suppose. All this new building and not enough power for it is ridiculous. there were 2 power cuts at Catalkoy on Monday one at 2 pm another at 10.30 pm.

I dont mind the cuts, although they are a pain in the rear. What gets to me more than the cuts. Is the pre planning. Kibtek state there will be cuts and that the cuts will be for a one hour period between the hours of 3pm and 7pm. So why cant they control the cuts between those hours? I also understand that there may have to be emergency cuts outside of these hours but that was not the case last night. Dont give out information to the public and then disregard the info. Better to say that there will be intermittent cuts through the day and leave it at that.

I dread to think how they would/will cope when tourism gets back to some sort of normal.

It seems the regions north of the mountains had their power cut after 7pm. We're on the south-side of the mountains, and so were more fortunate to have ours cut when it wasn't yet dark.

So three days of fuel left till kibtek run out
Awaiting delivery of fuel but once delivered it needs to settle for 3 days
KIB-TEK started alternating power cuts as it could not provide the electricity needed by the country due to the malfunctioning of some of the machines in Teknecik Power Plant and one of AKSA's generators being taken into maintenance. Another problem is that the fuel supply required for Teknecik Power Plant was delayed, only 3 days of fuel remained for production.

Göker said, “It is necessary to guarantee the fuel supply” and reminded that there is 3 days of fuel left in Teknecik Power Plant. Explaining that 36 thousand tons of fuel was allowed to be purchased from TPIC with the decision of the Council of Ministers, however, there are problems as a result of this not being realized, Göker said: “When the fuel shortage came to the agenda, the authorities asked me for fuel as well. This demand was also during the hours when the markets were not open. In fact, brokerage firms on behalf of TPIC requested both fuel and a ship for Teknecik from our parent company, Set Selecet. I said that I would submit my bid in the fuel tender and that he agreed to bring fuel immediately at that price. There is no ship or fuel at TPIC at the moment”.

If that is the case, will the debtors be cut off immediately, to let us make some ice cubes for our cocktails?
I think not

Managerial failures of no long term fiscal planning. Why did they not hedge the futures oil price when it was at a low at the height of the pandemic? The yearly weather conditions and electricity consumption stay fairly static, so a fair idea of oil amount needs throughout the seasons but, (as I think,) buying on the 'spot market' is not always wise especially when having to feed a whole nation.
