Trnc should move to euro currency

Enoughs enough trnc politicians always talking the talk about the cyprus talks and it's always the Greeks fault and many times it has its merits. But surely if trnc is serious about solving the cyprus oroblem by a federation or two states it will become part of Europe . So if that's the case why not adopt the euro now because the 10 years try fall is wreaking havoc. Salaries ships petrol rents school fees all in euro .

The powers that be cannot be serious about solving the cyprus issue and the fact that adopting the euro is not even on the agenda is clear evidence that that is the case.

I doubt very much if the TRNC would qualify to join the Euro.
As I understand it there are 4 criteria;

The inflation rate cannot be higher than 1.5 percentage points above the rate of the three best-performing member states.

Sound and sustainable public finances.

Exchange-rate stability.

Long-term interest rates.

After Greece slipped their way in by cooking the books I don’t suppose the EU will be taking another punt.
I think if Erdogan understands how interest rates effect the exchange rate that’ll be a good start.

This is a fundamental flaw of the EU. Rather than be an organisation for like minded stable economies it decided it wanted to be European Super State more than a trading block.

As an unrecognised nation, NCYP is dependent on Turkey for everything. Setting aside the criteria, the money you would lose exchanging lira to euro every time Turkey sent a cheque would make such an idea unviable.

By many intents
Northern Cyprus is within the EU under the same protocol as the ROC is the island of Cyprus.
It’s the Turkish military and Turkish ambition to retain a stake in their backyard that governs the situation.
Certainly Turkish money floods into the north to appease the rather hostile indigenous Cypriots.
If it was that Turkey agreed to depart and pressure does remain under any settlement of the Cyprus problem then certainly the North would be more officially part of the EU.
What turmoil that would create amongst the northern populations. Some UK ex pats particularly. Living in the EU ….god forbid.
I don’t think that is going to happen any time soon and the current or at least the old current suits me fine. With tl inflation at circa 25% then certainly other currencies are in demand.
Thank goodness for the gambling, corruption and money laundering…even the number of range rovers may decline!

was, you live in a dream that the number of range rovers may decline! In this nation you have to have the best and most expensive parked outside your tent! No matter that you can't afford fuel or food or anything remotley important - what you drive is what you are - hence the gradual decline in donkeys - lol.
No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.

What a load of twaddle!.............

There is more chance of hell freezing over, than a satisfactory Cyprus solution and even less chance of the TRNC switching to the Euro.

Prove me wrong if you please.

I think that could well be correct.
Turkey will not surrender its back yard.
The ROC ,EU or not does not have the clout.
Peace prevails so ..what problem is there.
Certainly the UK has even less clout in any discussions. It has its sovereign military bases so all is well.
The direct flights issue can only be resolved via Brussels
The EU can lobby for flights as the ROC and ostensibly the whole island is indeed EU

Could only happen if Turkey took up the Euro
IMO would be a disaster (certainly for expats), take Malta as a good example having lived there I can say with credibility everything is so expensive there....meat alcohol etc off the charts compared to here!!

Bitcoin yay all for that erol bring it on :+1:)
