There is so much building going on yet the power network can't cope with the existing demand. What does the future hold, how can it be fixed?

Under sea cable from Turkey.
Imagine how bad it would be if all the thousands of empty apartments were connected to the network.

The cable from Turkey has been mentioned for years. Is there a realistic chance of this happening?

The UK is running a cable from a giant solar farm in the Moroccan Sahara to supply electricity.
Turkey to Cyprus should be a doddle...

You would have thought that by now there would be a department within government to ensure that the infrastructure for an area is in place before developers are given the green light to build. Electric supply ( dependable ) adequate supply of water at a good pressure, The installing of proper sewage systems instead of small ill maintained systems on every development .Adequate road layouts from main roads to each site. I could go on and maybe there is a department that dont know what they are doing. But come on this is 2022 not 1722.

Oh what a dreamlike country that sounds Geoff 1311. There are quite a number of locals who feel the same way, but very sadly not enough. Every block of flats that is built, means a richer developer and wages for the guys delivering and laying all the concrete. BTW saw a brand new Bentley yesterday with the personalised registration of a well known developer. Why do you think cares that over priced furniture, kitchen and bathroom manufacturers are springing up on ever street corner in Girne and outskirts. Who the hells cares that the water and other utilities will be lacking a lot of the time. Not the developers that's for sure!!!

Even better doddle.... a solar 'farm' on the Mesoria plain, with no need for cables under the sea, and for substantially less money and risk than the nuclear plant and cable solution too.

...Self-sufficiency... :-1:(
If you have control of currency/finance - good, add control of water supply - better, add control of electricity supply - better still....
To keep/increase dependency, discourage and do not finance self-sufficiency.... Especially if your "dependant" does not exist to the rest of the world....

I can't see the unions allowing a cable from Turkey as it would make them obsolete and we all know the government does what the unions tell it to do.

the UK-maroc cable is planned, not "UK is running a cable"... and first power will come earliest 2027, finalised in 2030. earliest.
it includes some battery storage. which would be needed as well, if you install a solar power plant in the mesaoria.

project costs: 21,5 billion US dollar for 7 million people.
NC has 400.000 inhabitants , so, say ,divided by 17... 1,25 billion. in other words, 1250 million US dollar.
they do not have ONE million to pay the next load of fuel.

"the unions" do support a cable from TC since many years, as they do support solar and wind energy, but also sustainable electricity prices and some filters for Teknecik and the others.
it seems, you do not have a lot of a clue whats going on here...
