What's happened to the reduction in prices due to the reviewed tax
Nothing I fear.
Nice restaurant on the lapta strip charging 65tl for a can of cider.
19 .99 in Lemar
You don't deserve your local support .
Rant over

I don't believe that Lemar car park has the same overheads ( staff wages, electric, rent etc) or the ambiant views or service.

PLUS, I thought they wanted more money, just try getting a local part time cleaner or jobbing gardener. I asked a local re the latter, earlier this week. "why should I, I retired last week at 55, I don't need any more. I might help a friend out with a bit of waiting on tables, but if don't feel like it, then I won't do it

To be honest if anyone can afford to and is happy to retire at 55 then why not?

There are always going to be a few businesses which try to make hay on price rises but the customer is king and can always go elsewhere. Whilst the price of beer and alcohol isn’t the be and end all, we have noticed some marked variations in price between different supermarkets. Another example is the price of fresh fish. What was our regular go to supermarket is no longer for us as compared to others there prices are now more expensive for the same products.

In our experience there are plenty of cleaners/gardeners out there… it’s just a case of finding one that does a good job at a fair price.

They have doubled their price on the food menu to pay for the hike in wages.
Beer has always been double the purchase price. Wine usually treble everywhere.
Why you think you can times the price of cider to 3 and a quarter the cost for putting it in the fridge. the same you do with beer .
Used this place many times and always good however it is now out of my budget. Family coming and will now not go there as it's embarrassing that I can't afford it as it's nothing to them.
65 TL for a 20 purchase is in anyone's books an absolute Mickey take

I went famagusta last week. Efes 50tl in a restaurant. Local bar i use in summer months was 30tl now 35tl (maybe to south cyprus visitors as there are normally 12 people who come from the south) so he makes a lot.of money in 4 hours with a singer. We all dance in street and get visitors to join us. But he may give his locals a discount during the days we dont go. We were told that. Who knows!!!

So sad that businesses are fighting to survive, no support means no business no favourite bar, kebab house etc. I read the Turkish news and most people are struggling. Lets hope the tourists come this year to give the island a much needed boost.

I was quite surprised when purchasing a welcome pack the other day the cigarettes were one of the cheapest items. Bars have normally sold at double the price of the supermarkets and more recently at 2.5 more. Unfortunately they need customers and even if the most special place on the island and 'cheap' people would still need to travel to it therefore they depend on the people living in the area. Gone are the days we were out every night, age has caught up with us ie we don't want to go out so often plus our bodies won't let us drink the amount we did 19 years ago. I feel for businesses, generally rent is in sterling always a problem when selling in a different currency, staff now should be legal, electric water and taxes. Entertainment also seems required my many too

Those that purport to run/own bars/restaurants in TRNC haven't a clue on how to run a successful operation during difficult finacial inflationary times.
Lots of very small profit makes loads, enough to keep the 'wolves from the door', keeping regulars happy to frequent and spend accordingly, as they once used too!

Brinsley, well said, have always said TC are not business people. Look how many Meyhanes are being opened. Kabab shops next to one another.

A new shop opens, they have the most elaborate sign that they can afford and two months down the line there closed.

A lot of them did miss business school agreed, but these current ongoing price hikes aren't helping. Keeping the wolf from the door may not be something many businesses can achieve!Lets hope with the removal of Guvende Kal etc life can improve and just support when we are able.

Looks worse here.

https://www.morningadvertiser.co.uk/Art ... -than-pubs

By my quick calculation that would equate here on same difference to bars charging 48tl on per unit cost of 16tl at supermarkets. Three times difference. No need to question if the English as business people or not I guess.

I think maybe we have had it too cheap for too long. 2 x 50cl bottles of efes, 2 vodkas, one tonic.... 850 tl at Istanbul Airport.... but all airports are a rip off, but you either pay or go without, no point complaining . Everyone has choices.

I gave up ordering drinks in Airports many years ago, as mrsgee szys, no point in complaining. I also gave up ordering most drinks in Turkey as well. Fell lucky in Izmir though when we stayed at a small boutique in the centre. There was a tiny bar/reception where no body had a clue as to the amount of liquid to pour out. It would have been too easy to take advantage of them all (but didn't) and quite novel to be handed a bottle and told to "help yourself".

Still the same in supermarkets today. Don't think whatever the gazette prints it will bring the prices down.
