Electricity cuts
Hi,
I teach online and will be coming to TRNC at the beginning of July. We have an apartment in Gyzulyurt. I know there have been a lot of power cuts lately. I wanted to know if the cuts are regular or whether there was any way of knowing when and where cuts will happen. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Re: Electricity cuts
We have found the recent supply issue electricity cuts of around 1hr durations to be random in their timings.
Sometimes Kibtek post to their Facebook page planned maintenance outages, giving a wide window of when the outage may occur and for how long.
If you put your router and internet access devices onto decent UPS(s) you may find, as l have, power outages of 1hr are covered.
Bad weather and accidental severing of cables can disrupt internet services and electricity supply here.
It may pay you to have a decent mobile data package so you can tether as and when necessary.

Re: Electricity cuts
Apparently Kibtek have a Facebook page where they publish details of when and where cuts will occur - This thread from March gives examples....

Re: Electricity cuts
This should be where they make announcements https://www.facebook.com/elektrikkurumu/
Usually 1 day's notice for planned outages but the random 1 hour outages in the evening come at little or no notice, usually happen sometime between 4pm and midnight, even if they say otherwise.

Re: Electricity cuts
Thanks for the info! What kind of price for a decent UPS? Are they widely available in Northern Cyprus? Seems like a really good option. Thanks.a1sysman wrote: ↑Sun 26 Jun 2022 10:13 pmWe have found the recent supply issue electricity cuts of around 1hr durations to be random in their timings.

Re: Electricity cuts
Just seen on another site that the generators arrived this morning at Famagusta so should be wired up and ready to work in a couple of weeks. On the down side there is only enough fuel to run the existing and new generators for 2 to 3 days. Oh well!!!!!!!!

Re: Electricity cuts
Conflicting reports the gov says there is plenty of fuel Kibtek say there isnt but the new generators are connected and should be working in a few days but if there is any fuel to power them is another story.
