Re: Replacement battery clock mechanism.
Years ago I asked the same question - ended up buying another cheap as chips clock with the same mechanism in it and just threw away the new clock face. Problem was solved that way and I still have the original clock - lol. I know that is a bit like "I still have my Grandfathers axe", dad changed the head and I have just changed the haft - but the thought is the same.
No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.

Just something to watch out for if you do follow Waddo's suggestion...
The diameter of the spindles that the hands push on to is not 'standard', so choose a cheap clock that has similar looking/sized hands, or at least hands that you can live with, in case they are a slightly different fitting to the clock that you're fixing!
It's a good game though! - China Bazaar or Mr Pound is a good hunting ground

I bought three battery operated wall clocks during last year from Mr Pound and not one lasted more than a week. In the end the Manager said "what can I do" as he handed me my money back plus 3 x AAA batteries as compensation.

We have a ceramic clock that we bought years ago from the shop on the front, just past the Liman Hotel in Girne. A couple of times it’s stopped working & taken it in. The gentleman there replaced the mechanism, he obviously realised we bought it from him, but maybe worth going in & asking. If he can’t supply maybe he can tell you where to get them from.

Watch man in Girne has them. Walk past George's bar, downhill take first right, and he's on the left hand side, a couple of doors past the chemist. Tiny little shop with bags on the window on the left and he sits reparing watches etc on the right of the window. Speaks excellent english
