Re: Kibtek threat
Kibtek usually issue a statement about this every month for those in arrears, and I have no doubt they will cut folk off. Am talking about the general public here, not institutions, unless you have a link to something different.

Bogaz 58 is correct, just pay. In the past Kibtek would send someone to your property who removed the main fuse. It happened to us as we couldn't get from abroad in time. Went down to main office and early next day fuse was reinstated. I hasten to add this was long before digital or on line. It was also the time, when locals who couldn't pay their bill would go and pinch someone's fuse when their own was removed. Oh happy days!!

I think that nowadays, with the digital meters, it's more or less automatic - if the bill remains unpaid after the deadline, then the system automatically disables the meter...
...and when you pay, even in the middle of the night at one of the paypoints, it enables it again.
The Kibtek warning is probably just to remind people.
By the way, I don't think that anyone should assume that ardstrawray was considering not paying the bill - probably just asking the question out of interest!

Unfortunately the major problem here is the government departments and well connected hotel/casino owners. I seem to remember Kibtec being ordered to restore power a couple of hours after the last time they cut these types off.

Nc2016 is correct - unfortunately the Government and consequently Kibtek are in a tight spot regarding the Hotels, because the casinos within those hotels are the biggest tax payers in TRNC - or so I'm led to believe...
Individual Government departments may owe money, but I understand that a lot of Municipalities (Belediyeler/local government) don't pay their electricity bills either, and that has to amount to a huge amount of money.
I don't think that Kibtek would dare to cut off Municipalities, as that would bring the Country to a standstill.
They compromised by charging for street lighting direct on every individual's electric bill, because previously the Municipalities were collecting money for this and simply not passing it on!
It's a political issue and there isn't the will to solve it amongst the politicians - they've all got a 'Dog in the game'.
Just my opinion of course!

I think you are totally correct re Dog in the Game. I was told a few years back (how true I have no idea), that Hotels and Casinos actually pay little tax here, as they , or certainly the very large ones, are registered in Turkey. Seemed to make sense at the time.

They might get larger tax breaks though. How much is KDV in Turkey. One of the managers of three of the largest said they obtain 90% of the furniture and accessories from Turkey, together with lighting and other ancillary equipment. Where the actual gambling equipment comes from, heaven only knows. China/ America?
