Claiming Your State Pension
Just for information. If there are any people living in North Cyprus that are due to claim their U.K. State Pension this year, there has been a change. You will not get your State Pension automatically, you will have to make the claim yourself. You will receive a letter 2 months before, but the onus is on you to claim. It’s not been well advertised.
Do I have to apply for my pension or does it come automatically?
You will not get your State Pension automatically - you have to claim it. You should get a letter no later than 2 months before you reach State Pension age, telling you what to do. If you have not received an invitation letter, but you are within 4 months of reaching your State Pension age you can still make a claim.

Thanks for that Dalartokat, I'm sure that quite a number of people on here will be grateful for your message. Equally there are masses of us already in receipt and it won't effect us, particularly as we've replied to what I refer to as the "Are you still alive form " .

Re: Claiming Your State Pension
I had to put in a claim for my state pension 14 years ago. It was not automatic then. I didn't realise at the time that I had to claim so when I eventually did I had a nice lump sum of back payment!!

The difference now is, if you don’t make a claim, it will automatically be deferred.

Ah so you mean there would not be back payment but increased payments monthly?

You can backdate a claim to the State Pension by up to 12 months

Very useful advice, I have popped the number in my phone, and the web address, for a couple of years down the line, wherever we are.

Re: Claiming Your State Pension
I have just claimed mine. I was sent a letter with a code to claim online. There is also a freephone (0800) number if you can’t do it online. Did it last week & got a letter confirming this week. Hopefully you can do without the code, but presumably you’d need to jump through a few more hoops for security if you don’t have it.

The information was not about how to claim.
