Does anyone know why my free standing has stove will not stay alight? There is gas in bottle and on pressing the two top buttons it does light but goes out when I let go of the buttons.

Gas hobs now incorporate a thermocouple. If this has failed the flame will go out. Where the flames come out you should see the igniter and a second thing which is the t.c. all you can do is ensure things are clean and the flame is actually hitting the t.c. It is possible to test the t.c. with a test meter. If the tc is OK then the fault will be with the gas Valve itself. It is the t.c that keeps the gas valve open when you release it.
