Message from Turkcell re 4.5G
I had a message from Turkcell saying I should check if my device and SIM card are 4.5G compatible. I sent a message to 4.5G as requested and they replied that the device I use is compatible but I need to replace the SIM card. I went to the Turkcell shop in Girne high street and was told to come back in a week. My question is - does anyone know if it’s necessary to change my sim ? I use WhatsApp and Viber and sometimes look at Facebook and check my emails etc. I use my iPad for most things. Will my phone stop being able to access these things if I don’t update the sim ? Thanks

Re: Message from Turkcell re 4.5G
Dropped into Turkcell Office in Catalkoy yesterday - on the way to somewhere else - and asked about the same thing. Very helpful Lady in there checked my phone, filled in the paperwork, changed my SIM for me and told me I would have to reset my settings when 4.5G comes on-line. That was that, no hassle, no problem and all for free. Don't forget to take your passport with you and do make sure your phone is registered here and everything else is simple.
Not sure if it will make a difference to how I use my phone and don't really care but at least it is done and I can forget about it till Turkcell tell me 4.5G is now available. I treated it just like any other upgrade - lol.

They are trying to push their profits by getting folk hooked on 24/7 internet connectivity... as nearly all shops, restaurants and homes have Wi-Fi it's a moot point as to whether it's going to enhance ones life...

If you have an android phone you can download the Turkcell Cep Hesabım app. and check whether your SIM and/or phone are compatible. If the SIM isn't compatible Turkcell will change free of charge.

Yes! Nothing changes apart from the physical SIM and as 4.5G is not yet available you will remain on 3G till you change your settings in the phone itself.
One bit I missed off earlier post - My phone is an iPhone.

Appears my SIM is fine but they need to sell me a new phone. So don't think I'll bother!! Just checked on the app.
Thanks

We did ours the other day, 4.5G is not available for another 6 months. Sounds as though they are getting ready early for a change.

Not with Turkcell. But my dual sim phone has UK & Telsim sim cards. Changes automatically to 4g or 5g. Depending witch country I'm in.
