GOOD AFTERNOON FOLKS.

Advice needed please.
In the past we have bought car insurance from Credit West because they gave the option to pause the insurance when we returned to the UK, and to and restart when we come back to TRNC.
They no longer offer this facility.
Does anyone know of other insurers who offer this?
Many thanks.
Marjie

We second this recommendation mostly because their comprehensive cover includes unlimited courtesy car whilst your car is repaired, some insurance companies only allow 5 days! Our car took nine weeks so the cost of car hire saved was massive. The insurance break is not a good idea, just because it's not being used does not mean no harm will befall it... Capital Bank insurance is cheap anyway, the peace of mind knowing your car is covered and your no-claims bonus is accruing is worth the full annual cover.

I understand that all car insurance fees are fixed no matter where you get it from? That being the case how can Capital sell “cheap “ insurance?

Waddo, it was my understanding the Third Party was fixed but Comprehensive was not and was left to the Insurer. I could be wrong and not with Capital either. I must admit that coughing up for nine weeks of car hire was amazing. I think I'll check what my company policy says.

BJB, that’s interesting! When I first got here I was “advised” by a local policeman not to get fully comp insurance unless I really, really wanted it - that was because if I got into an accident, when the police came and checked insurance documents they always blamed the accident on the one with fully comp! That way nobody but the insurance company had to pay anything! Later on I found out that a person caught speeding could allocate the fine and points to another driver, even if they weren’t in the vehicle - lol.

Not sure if the Full Comp business still applies but have met drivers only this year who won't pay for FC because they reckon their vehicle isn't worth the yearly premium. Once upon a time, husbands caught speeding always passed the offence on to their wives because not so many wives went out to work after children were born.

Waddo, I'd think it will be a bit harder these days to blame the one with fully comp, as many have cameras in their vehicles.

Exactly.

Our old Suzuki Jimny is insured fully comp via Trevor Hughes and Capital insurance. We like the extras that fully comp gave us, including recovery, courtesy car etc. We invested in a front/rear dash cam just in case. They don’t cost a lot and easily fitted.

VALUE OF CARS
in the TRNC the prices have been high compared with the rest of the world
A couple of years ago they softened bur were still high
The rest of the world now is mad secondhanded cars are increasing in value at a stupid rate thanks to covid and chips
They are not making new ones and the ones they are making are the top of the range models so they make more money
My UK car new 3 1/2 years ago with 24k miles total will now fetch what I paid for it new after discount instead of a third or 40% of its original value which used to be the norm .You need Comp Insurance cars for now are an appreciating asset .Plus by 2030 no new petrol and diesel cars
