Has any one had any surgery done in the Dr Suat University Hospital Kyrenia ? If so what has the experience been like as my partner is thinking of getting a knee replacement done there. If any one has had a knee replacement done in NC we would love to hear how the operation went in any of the hospitals please. My partner is also a diabetic and I was worried they might not moniter whilst under anaesthetic ...
We have been for an X-ray etc at the Dr Suat Hospital and the price sounds very good, but its always good to have other peoples experiences . Please pm me if you dont want to write on a public forum.. Thank you in advance .

I've had a knee replacement here but, when my other one needs doing, I will go to Guven Hospital in Ankara for this. All their knee replacements are done using 3D which is a much smaller op. and a much quicker recovery time. My partner had major surgery there and they were absolutely excellent in every way. They will give you a price including taxis from home to the airport, your air fares (patient and partner) transport from Ankara airport to the hospital and hotel costs if you need to stay in a hotel there. When I enquired, the price was less than I paid for a traditional knee replacement here. They have an office here on the Bellapais road - same parade as Uncle Sams - so it is possible to take your x-rays, scans or whatever to them and they will get you a quick response from the hospital together with a price. Highly recommended.

I had a knee replacement in the TRNC. Dr Hakan Dincyurek performed the operation. He is one of the most experienced of the TRNC specialists. My knee was painful - it was virtually bone on bone as the cartilage had virtually worn away. II have had no problem with my knee since, about 10 years ago. I have a knee bend of about 125 degrees, which gives you some idea of the flexibility of the knee.. I can highly recommend him. Just to give you some idea of the after care - one incident he came into the hospital late one Saturday night, leaving his wife in the car, following their wedding anniversary dinner to check that I was OK. How many doctors would do that? His tel no is 0542 851 2928.

Incidentally my wife had disgraceful service recently at the Guven hospital in Ankara. We went there for a second opinion and "wasted" several thousand pounds. My opinion was that the doctor was very unprofessional in both attitude and performance. After escalation their board at the Guven suggested we went to a TRNC hospital. And I paid for that recommendation! She is now being given the care and attention by local medics and her health is improving. From my experience I would not recommend the Guven hospital at all.

Although I would praise the surgery I am afraid their after care is terrible and if it wasn’t for the fact my wife is medically qualified and able to correct the nursing staffs errors or failings I would not use this hospital. She has gone through several procedures and on all occasions the same failings observed.
Be aware of this as they are not terribly good whatsoever.
Having said that, the surgeon was professional throughout

Our friend had a knee replacement there and it has been so successful he will have the other one done there. Dr Ramadan did the surgery and the after care and physiotherapy were excellent.

No two people probably have the same views entirely of various hospitals but I can only re-iterate that, for my partner, Guven gave of their very best. He had a major (10 hour) operation there on his spine and the surgical and aftercare were absolutely immaculate. Two different private hospitals here in TRNC had already operated on him and screwed up both times without admitting it. One large private hospital here had made matters hideously worse by giving him a free gift of MRSA which took almost a year for him to recover from and, of course, they admitted no liability whatsoever! We can only speak as we find but I would have no hesitation in using Guven again.

Had an eye Op in the Guven. Wouldn't touch the place with a barge pole, despite all the promises by their representatives in Girne of what would be included, they weren't. Brochures etc look wonderful. They even had some one come over here to listen to my concerns but of course nothing whatever came of it. Surgeon below par, and the list goes on and on. Grossly over rated hospital. Rooms tiny despite being so called VIP and the only person who went above and beyond was the cleaning lady who was lovely and couldn't do enough for us.

These all sound like the NHS, only you get to pay lots for it. My daughter had absolutely horrible treatment that took almost 12 months to get and then 2 years after she is still suffering from it, my best friend in the UK had perfect treatment through two major operations that have both saved him from the box in the ground - what can I say, the NHS is wonderful/the NHS is rubbish? I think it all depends on where you live in the UK just for a start, then which staff happen to be on duty and which doctor/surgeon you get. It's like life - the luck of the draw has a big effect. 10 years ago I went to Near East and was told I had a cyst in my prostate and needed a biopsy urgently (at a cost of £1,000), I decided against it having googled it to death (scared myself to death as well) and having talked to a couple of senior NHS nurses. Probably still got it, probably will kill me in the end (no pun intended) but now I am well past my 70th I guess I will just take it with me when I go in the fullness of time - lol. Would I go back to the Near East? No but again that is personal choice, anyone can have a bad day!
No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.

I agree With the comment that De Ramadan is very good indeed . My concern and more importNtly my wife is the poor training the nursing staff have . The Near East Hospital is no better in this respect in fact may be worse. I am not going to name names or go into great detail here but the majority of nurses have to be prompted to do their respective jobs. Giving medicine etc is not an issue but simple things like checking the patient is eating drinking going to the toilet properly etc, basic nursing skills. Giving injections on more than one occasion was not carried out correctly potentially risking spread of infections. Even the anaesthetist could not correctly get a needle into a vein.. tried to use the same needle in several veins.

I could go on but my point is simply to make sure you keep a watchful eye on what they do or more importantly Don’t do. Be prepared to ask whenever you are not sure.
When challenging the hospital previously they acknowledged they have a skills problem in the nursing department . Enough said

My final word: Op on husbands knee at Dr Fuat was great, however, during the Op he had to have a catheter inserted, two days later 3 female nurses came to remove it. (it was clear they disliked the idea intensely) After a certain amount of pulling on their part, they asked my husband to remove it!!!!!! Neither the nurses or my husband had any idea what to do, so a male nurse was sent for. He did what had to be done and walked out. I spoke to the surgeon who came into room 2 times a day, he said "what can we do"

My husband was referred by Suat Gunsel Hospital to NEU Lefkosa for double by-pass surgery on his heart. Throughout this whole procedure I found all staff to be exemplary in their jobs. The rooms and the care were excellent, ps by the way the rooms are massive. My husband is 3 months past surgery and is doing really well, we cannot thank this Hospital enough for their care and attention. The surgeon was of the highest credentials and we would like to thank him for giving my husband his life back.

Just one person's experience, this hospital is top notch, IN ALL ASPECTS. x

I would second 'old trucker's' post. My husband had five heart bypasses two and a half years ago at NEU Lefkoşa. The treatment and care was first class. The scars on chest and leg have almost disappeared altogether. The aftercare still continues as in twice yearly check-ups. Really cannot speak highly enough of the hospital and staff.

Sad to hear that. Just the thread is 14 months old so was surprised to see it back again.
