It's not just tourists. What about us 'swallows' that can't get there either? We spend money that helps the local economy too.

Our trip in March was cancelled and at this stage October for us is looking doubtful too. In October we have flights booked via LCA for five of us but if the crossing is still closed then we won't be going. Also, if we have to quarantine for 14 days in TRNC we won't be going either, as it'll be time to fly back to the UK b4 the quarantine ends. We usually have around 4-5 weeks a year in TRNC but this year it's looking like a big fat ZERO I'm very sad to say.
So if you could test and quarantine for three days rather than 14 would you still come this year ? Would you worry about infection on the flight ? If you did would some system that added say 10-15% of the cost of the flight but ensured all on it were tested in a way that meant they either were not infected or not infected to a level that they could spread it be something you would consider ?
If it were quarantine in our own property for 3 days then yes, but if elsewhere probably not as we are only there for 11 days total anyway. In terms of the flight and your suggestion, yes probably, although at this stage not sure I want to fly at all.... anywhere.

As airlines (and cruise companies) must be desperate to resume business (and make money), I would suggest one "solution" that might be quite acceptable, i.e. if/when a proven vaccine is available.
From the NHS site -
"The yellow fever vaccine is recommended if you're travelling to:
an area where yellow fever is found
a country that requires you to have a certificate proving you have been vaccinated against yellow fever
.
Therefore, in line with the above, if both the various countries and travel companies require a covid vaccination certificate, surely "normal service will resume shortly"....
A ticket to ride?
Governments and businesses will always find some way.....

Your 100% right Erol I’m sure that the tourist industry will carry out your plan to the letter once you have carefully edited the plan after they have carried out a feasible plan
You are certainly much better at sarcasm than you are at coming up with any sort of constructive suggestion of your own. I concede. You beat me hands down at sarcasm. You are simply the best. better than all the rest.
Your 100% right Erol, after saying put that vase down and it gets dropped and smashed into a thousand pieces I should be more encouraging when someone starts to repair it with chewing gum.

It’s a great idea may I suggest compulsory Hazmat suits when out by the pool to stay safe?

You can do as you like. I started this thread to think about if there was anything that could be done to try and salvage any tourism this seasons here in TRNC using as 'leverage' the fact that we have managed to control the virus to date comparatively better than many other tourist destinations. I threw out one idea of my own, made no claims that it was workable or a good, just threw it out to get the ball rolling. If all you want to do is keep saying over and over that there is nothing that can be done, any suggestion that there might be is stupid, just give up and basically be a prophet of doom on this issue , that is your choice. I do not know if anything can be done to salvage even 1% of the tourism here this season. I do know if you start from a premise nothing can be done you are pretty much guaranteed that this will be a self fulfilling prophecy of doom.

Sound good to me, but think there should be testing during stay and before departure. As for "This is undertaken by using a special mixture of recommended chemicals, which when left for four hours, ensure 100 per cent protection." - Can't believe that.

There was more than one person who jumped off the WTC I guess statistically if enough did one might have been able to fly? Or desperate people try desperate things.
I wish him luck though I have to say if I was that desperate and still had enough money to go on holiday I don’t think his hotel would be top of the list.
“Love do you fancy the hotel that was used to house the people that had the virus?”
“Tempting but no, as the plane is half empty do you think they’ll let us take a tent?”

https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/uk-n ... s-18273635
Cyprus is considering asking tourists to take a Covid-19 test prior to their arrival - with other proposals including disinfecting luggage, putting reception desks behind screens and dressing cleaning staff in full protective gear.

UK personal trainer Kenny Dyer cancelled an Easter holiday in Cyprus and is hopeful of venturing back in October. But Mr Dyer attached a condition that governments may find hard to guarantee.

“I wouldn’t want to fly somewhere where there’s a sudden spike in coronavirus cases, and I would have to be quarantined abroad,” he said.

An added complication for TRNC are people that have booked to fly into Larnaca and then get a taxi north. A lot coming from the UK do that so two borders to negotiate.

OK my 5 cents worth -The economy of the TRNC is based on the tourism sector (plus other smaller, more lucrative ventures, such as casino's and prostitution) and Universities (which seem to be just a way to get cheap labor onto the Island, then watch them vanish under the radar) yet it suffers the same basic problem that the rest of the World is now suffering and that is the THREAT of Covid 19!

TRNC is "alleged" to be COVID free so just open all the hotels etc and go back to how things were a couple of months ago - just don't let anyone else in!!! Silly idea, so only let in people that have come from "Alleged" COVID free locations??? The can only come by single direct method of travel - so that lets out anyone who transits through Turkey then. But they could come from the South??? Even better, they could come from the South if the South played the same game and only let people into the South who came "Direct" from "Alleged" COVID free areas. TRNC would no longer need to quarantine it's visitors, it could cancel half of its flights and save money on that, it would be able to cure the "Illegal" taxi drivers to and from Larnaca problem it has - more money for the locals - and if somebody did sneak through with the COVID virus you could sue the South for failing to provide sufficient checks and publicly declare that the RoC did this on purpose (taking a leaf out of the RoC political book of sneaky moves there)!

Of course you could just wait for a "Proven" jab that will cure COVID "PROVEN" then start again when it happens - meanwhile direct energies towards different areas that will produce income for the TRNC, thereby not ever again having all your tourists in one basket!

One thing for sure, no matter what you do it will be proven by somebody that it was the wrong thing - the very first next occurrence of COVID19 in the TRNC will have a dramatic effect on the whole situation. Right now I feel it is too early to try to rush into anything that threatens peoples safety.
No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.

I couldn’t be bothered opening a new thread, but you may be interested that “Pam” from TRNC emailed the Jeremy Vine show on BBC 2 today praising North Cyprus on how they coped with Covid19. “Mark” from Turkey did actually get to speak about what Turkey has done but what cut off a bit short. Sometimes Jeremy Vine comes across as naive or just being BBC...well,leave you to decide.

If you can get BBC2. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/live:bbc_radio_two It’s just after 12.25pm on the clock. This is today’s programme so you might have to wait until tomorrow to catch-up.

I find this out from another forum where someone had heard this today, so found it and thought you would like to hear.

Just to say the programme finishes at 2.00pm UK time today.
If you ever get tired one day of life, take a rest, lean your back on the stone, not people. Cold but safe...

it's 14 days because that's the maximum incubation period for the virus to appear in a case/patient. If it was 1-2 days quarantine, then the case/patient could turn out to be +ve after the quarantine has ended.

The issue is a political one to be decided tbh. Should the govt impose a quarantine period be implemented on entry or can you rely on other measures ( such as physical distancing ) to control the spread ?

I feel that if 'other measures' could be relied on to suffice, there wouldn't still be hundreds of people a day dying in the UK :(

KC, horribly afraid that history is not going to look favourably on the way Covid-19 was handled. (Scotland appears to have dealt with the situation far better and far less influenced by commercial dictats)

Haven't trawled through these posts but I get the gist of it.

Nothing will happen here in the TRNC with regards to tourism until the Boss across the pond says so.

Good to dream though (:Q)

Is everyone still wearing those (:()) s

The novelty will soon wear off !

Yes I and most of my friends are still doing so and the "novelty" has gone on for quite a while now hasn't it?

Just a slightly different few questions along the 'swallow' thread that may or may not help me out. I am a British home owner in TRNC, Under 60 and Non-Resident, and usually spend 80 days or so at home (5 or 6 visits anything from a week - to 3.5 weeks at a time) per year as I work in Africa, where i am right now. I haven't been in UK in over 2 years and was last home in TRNC mid Feb this year. My questions are as follows: How long do i need to be in TRNC to physically obtain residency (assuming i meet all the criteria), if they implement 14 days quarantine as and when they open Ercan to Turkish airlines flights say, is it likely to be institutional quarantine or Self-isolation at home?, lastly - i would be entering basically as a tourist as always - is this an option to fly in if i'm prepared to pay for my quarantine and/or any testing etc, plus immediately follow that by residence process - i suspect if quarantine is imposed, my entry visa would expire before i get residency? Sorry a bit long winded - but i do really want to know how to get home (my only home) irrespective of cost - and realistically if this is feasible before Aug/Sept. My wife is in exactly the same situation but from Belarus where she currently is since we were both home last - she also owns property adjacent to mine (and under 60 yrs old) Thanks
